Best time to have dating scan?

Hi ladies, so tomorrow morning I can phone up to get a date for my dating scan but I don't know whether to go for first date available or hold out a little longer so I will see more and get a clearer picture?!

Do you think there will be much difference between 10 and 13 weeks?

The only thing that'd make a difference is if you're having the Down's syndrome test as well? They have to do this at 12 weeks

Personally I'd have liked mine earlier (I was 13w5d by the time I got mine, didn't have any choice they just sent me an appointment letter).

While it is nice to see a clear baby-shaped image, waiting that long for the first image (and all the reassurance it gave me) was painful!

I had a scan at 9 weeks and then at 12 weeks. At 9 weeks it was still very much a large blob really, but at 12 weeks it was a jumping waving baby. I'd wait a little longer

The best time to have your dating scan is 12 weeks. Obviously if you get put forward or back this is fine too. But they aim to get it closest to 12 weeks for a number of reasons.

As someone mentioned nuchal meausuring is needed to be done at 12 weeks and also, the babies are easiest themselves to measure as once it goes over 12 weeks all babies grow at their own rate, so to get the most accurate date, size, etc of baby its best to go at 12 weeks if you can

There's a big difference from 10-12 weeks so I'd choose closer to 12 xx

I had a scan at 11+3 with both pregnancies for my dating scan and loved how clear both my scan were id aim between 11-13 xx

Where I live they won't offer it before 11 weeks. They usually try to do it for 12 weeks

I had an early scan as i'd been admitted into the hospital. Whilst that reassurance was what I needed at that point I'd definitely wait if I were you. My scan pic just looks like a blob! ��

How exciting, the 11th will come around in no time
We have our dating scan on the 20th Jan, when we'll be exactly 13 weeks, but next scan is on the 30th Dec when we'll be 10 weeks xx
