Maia hates having a bath, she screams and cries hysterically and then it takes me a good 5/10 mins to calm her down afterwards.

I bath her in a baby bath in her room and usually bath her before her evening feed before she goes to bed.

I have tried all sorts. Feeding then bathing. Water a bit cooler, water a bit hotter. Hubby taking her into our big bath with him. Bubbles, no bubbles.

Is awful to see her getting upset over a bloody bath and I really want to take her to Water Babies swimming but scared she will scream the place down, or maybe then she will like her bath?

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks very much for everyones suggestions.

I took Maia into the shower with me and although she wasn't hysterical like she normally is with a bath she still cried ALL the time.

So now im leaving it a week to see if she forgets about bath time and then I will try her again. Failing that im going to put a message on Freecycle asking for a Tummy Tub.

3rd August

Today Maia had her first bath in just over a week. She had just finished feeding with me in bed and was in a really great mood, she was wide awake and very happy so hubby got the bath ready and I plonked her in!!

She was great we washed her and washed her hair but when we rinsed the shampoo out some water went on her face which she didn't like and started to cry. She didn't stop crying then till we took her out but to be honest we had finished anyway.

So all in all it was a massive improvement and a huge success to what she was like last time. Going to try again in a few days time to see what she is like
May be able to go swimming soon :cheer:

I just want to give HUGE THANKS to everyone for your help and suggestions this forum really is fantastic and its everyone who comes on here who makes it that way.

Thanks to you lovely lot Maia now quite likes her bath, I truly never thought I would see the day!!

Our LO loves water so not sure if I am the best person to give advice...

Have you tried taking her to shower with you? I wouldn't bother washing her that often if she doesn't like it...

My LO hates baths too... its horrible to have to do to him, but he needs a propper bath every so often, top and tail only does for a few days.

Id be interested in what replies you get...!

hannah was just the same hun and someone recomended buying an inflatable bath and it was the best thing i bought from the first time we used it we never had another tear

Hi,

I had the same experience with my son. He screamed his head off as soon as his body was in the water, seems odd as they spend 9 months (8 in my case) surrounded in water and you would think its something babies would take to naturally.

I ended up reading bits and peices off the net and asking friends/family for suggestions. A friend of mine suggested not to give him a bath for 1 week but to "top and tail" him instead, so just give him a strip wash and then try him again a week later.

So....I tried it, and im pleased to say it was the end of the bath tantrums :cheer: He took to the bath like a duck to water and ever since has loved having a bath. Give it a try and see what happenes.

Ive been told that if babies have got upset over something they have taken a dislike to, its worth giving them a break so they can "forget" they dont like it, and then hopefully when you try again it will be all smiles.

Also, try keeping a warm flannel over her tummy, I dont know why but it settles my LO even more (maybe its a comfort thing?)

Hope this helps.

T xx

We use a tummy tub abd LO loves it. Goes in, adopts fetal position of sorts (getting a bit big for that now) and then splashes around. We support his head a bit but as he can hold it upright now we hardly have to do anything.

James hated the bath too, but we got a Tummy Tub from a friend and it was great. He loved it and we used it until he was far too big for it. Maybe it's something to do with feeling insecure in a big bath? I'm really wee so it was much easier to bath him in the tummy tub - now OH has to do the baths and if he's not around James just comes in with me!

Oh my Gog the tummy tub transformed Sam's bathtimes! He screamed in a normal baby bath but its all smiles in the tummy tub, even if he was crying when we put him in he calms down immediately (now cries cos he doesn't want to get out :wall: )
Well worth the money in our house! Good luck

My LO started off liking bath time around that age, then we had to change her to normal bath because she was too big for the baby one and she didn't like it. Then when she learned to sit up she liked it again. As soon as she learned to stand up, she hated it. Screamed the place down. No idea why. Now she likes it again    but screams when she has to get dressed. My guess is that it will change in a while when he can 'play' a bit in the water.
Sorry, that's rubbish advice, but just wanted to say, it will change and not be like that forever, pretty sure :)

Maia was fairly big at birth and is putting on good weight proportionate for her length im tempted to try the tummy tub but dont want to splash out  on a tummy tub if shes only likely to use it for another couple of weeks or so. She was weighed a week ago and was 11lb 4oz so my guessing would be that she's now around 11lb 9oz.

So im just trying to work out how much longer she would fit into a tummy tub, how long do you think it will be before Galen grows out of his tummy tub?

I haven't really got any advise because Lola loves the bath.

You could try putting her in with you. I used to do that with my LO until she started poo'ing in every single bath :puke:

If she doesn't like it you don't need to give her a bath everyday.

DD has a bath around once a week unless there is a reason (e.g. she threw up all over herself). Usually it's just a wipe down with little muslin squares.

Galen is 14lb weight now and fits it fine. Meant to be good till 6 months or so IIRC

My little one just comes in the bath with me, we don't have a baby bath. She seems to really enjoy it. Have you tried taking Maia in with you? It is a lovely experience.

The bottom marker on our tummy tub is 8kg. We use ours fairly regularly but she is a bit squished in it now and hates to be restrained in any way. She loves kicking her legs in water so it's not used as much as it was at the start. She's now 13lb 7oz but has quite long legs. Might be worth a try though if she needs to feel a bit more secure?

It belongs to my SIL and she bought it for €1 at a garage sale.

I would go and buy a bucket from B&Q for a quid ( :rotfl: ) and make sure she likes it before splashing out because for a bucket they're not cheap to buy new.

It's strange how babies are so different even though they all spent ages in water. Tally has hated being restricted from day one and even when i feed her for bed she'll push me away at times. I'm begining to think the baby bath is too small for her cos she kicks off the sides and bangs her head on the other one.

She loves water though, hates having her hair washed but is quiet as soon as i put her body in. We always make sure she's well fed and has recently filled her nappy to try and avoid accidents.

I hope the break works as bath time is now a really enjoyable thing for us, im not really sure of anything else you could try as you seem to have done it all, i'd have thought co-bathing might work but obviously not. Good luck

Thats great news.

Just want to add if you want to take her swimming then go for it. DD was very much hard work in the bath i took her swimming thinking she would scream the house down but she really enjoyed herself and since then bathtime has improved loads.

so you can see that she doesnt like the water on her face.

I hope it gets easier
