Went to see GP as still can't shift the killer back pain at my ribs on the left hand side - he prescribed ibuprofen gel as said although can't take the tablets when pregnant can use the topical stuff. When got prescription home and read the leaflet in it, it says definitely not to use when pregnant and when I googled for more info it could have been really dangerous to use is - especially as I am nearly in the 3rd trimester.

Pretty bad when you can't even trust what your doctor gives you!

And am still left with killer sore back, boo! :-(

Oh my god that's terrible. I would make another appointment and confront him and tell him that you are complaining! These people are paid a lot of money and should not make mistakes like that. It's just as well that you checked!
If it helps I'm sure we can take paracetamol though.

I'd definately complain.

If you don't, he could do the same to other pregnant women.

How bad is that! yes I would see how I go and if no luck shifting the pain with paracetamol , I would go back and tell him and ask for help

ooooooo i would of blown a fuse. he might of harmed my baby.
glad you read the box before taking.

No offense but ur doctor is a prat.
Ask for co-dydromol.
It's codine n parcetomol n u can take it in pregnancy.
I hate Drs that feel that because they believe u shouldn't take anything in pregnancy they inflict that on their patients.

sometimes they prescribe something although it can be contradicted for pregnancy even canesten pessarys say dont use but ar eprescribed def double check with him but i was told to use gel on carpel tunnel when expecting sometimes google scares!!

Been trying paracetamol but its not helping. Got prescribed co-codamol for headaches before which could have tried for my back, but they make me really sick :-(

No idea who I would complain to re this but think will at least mention it - either to same doc and ask why he gave me the ibuprofen gel, or to another doc at the practice. Its proper medical websites I have been on that say it shouldn't be used, not just google scaremongering!

That is awful! The gel is just as bad as taking tablets, just the gel you simply apply and wait. Easier for people who cant take tablets for whatever reason. At the end of the day you get the same amount of relief from gel as tablets and it all enters your blood stream and goes around the body!

xx

omg thats very bad hmmm for your back ache hun try a nice relaxin warm bath i know the feelin when it comes to a sore back because baby tends to kick me in the ribs on the right hand side x

I would phone the surgery and ask to speak to the doctor that prescribed it!

It's a really difficult one though, as serenitylove says lots of medications have warnings in pregancy (even co-codamol) but can be pescribed by a doctor if they think any potential benefit outweighs the risk of any harm.

The doctor should have really explained the risk and benefit of any medication before prescribing it for you!

My wife has been using hot water bottles for about the past week. seems to help her alot. give it a go see if it helps.

Years ago when I was pregnant with my 2nd (i'd only just found out 2 days prior I was 5 weeks gone), the triage nurse at the hospital had pretty much reduced me to tears as I hadnt reaslied I couldnt take ibuprofen (had only taken it as a one off on the way to a&e as paracetamol hadnt helped at all) and then after seeing the Dr at the hospital he then prescribed me with ibuprofen! I told him abou the lecture I'd received from the nurse, he double checked in his books to assure me that I was fine to take it, however I only took home the co-codamol.
Just shows that the 'proffessionals' don't always agree!! Great for us tho huh! :(
