what do you all think of naming a baby boy after its Dad? is it boring and shows no imagination, or is it cute??

mu OH is called Shaun, and his Dad and 2 Grandads were called John, which in Ireland is all one and the same name more or less.

as we are really struggling with a boys name I suggested naming the baby after him, and essentially after his Dad and Grandads........

hubby isnt sure. At least we have a possible now............:wall2:

I wouldn't do it but don't let my opinion influence you if you like it.
Maybe a grandparent instead?

I personally don't like it hun! Not the name Shaun but the whole naming after dad.

I think it is very unoriginal.

My OH has a horrible name though, I mean really rubbish so there is no way we'd even consider it...

xxxxxxx

thanks girls, we are not set on it at all either. The grandads on his side were both Johns, but called Jack. (Not having Jack, WAY too common these days)
and on my side we have Donald and Murdoch. Hubby hates both these names.
His Dad is John and mine is Gordon. So not the best!

we have thought about Donal (Irish version of Donald) and I really love Corran but hubby again hates both. He wants Eamon, Keiron or Brendon!!! arghhhhhhhhhhhh

gotta hope we are having a girl. We have had her name for months!

I like corran!!!! Maybe you start using it a little and see if he warms to it??
How about jonah or a derivate instead of John?

I keep throwing Corran at him, but he just isnt having it! we thought about mixing both our Dads names, and got Jordon, but dont like that. Not to keen on Jonah.

Corran is a good Irish name, so not sure why he is so dead against it.

Its Freya. A spooky story behind it...........

I was reading a newspaper article when I was about 8 weeks pregnant. And i noticed it had been written by a woman called Freyja. And I was thinking it was a cute name, but I would probably spell it Freya.

just at that very second my Mum text me, and her text just said "what about Freya for a girls name?"

so since then it has been set in stone, and luckily hubby likes it too. I wanted Freya Rose, but she will be Freya Lisa (Lisa is hubbys little sister who died).

we have Cora as a back up, in case baby just doesnt look like a Freya. x

Freya Lisa is wonderful !!!

Did Lisa have a middle name that maybe can be transformed in a boys name? Or sth symbolic about her???
Why did she die? :(

ooh thats a good idea! not sure about her middle name, will ask him.

she died of cardiomyopathy when she was 2. Left her twin behind who has never quite got over it. Thankfully isnt anything genetic so no worries for our LO or the rest of our family. x

What a tragic story :(

Maybe you can find sth symbolic about her.
For example while pregnant both my auntie and my uncle died both from cancer. I loved them both so much and I wanted sth from them for my bean.
After lots of though the beans middle name will be Celeste as a tribute to our loved ones that never get to meet her...

Celeste is very cute. Will have think later with the hubby. I dont actually know that much about Lisa, they rarely talk about her cause obviously its very painful for them all.

maybe if I knew more I could find something that might give me inspiration. Thanks Hope! x

I think it's cute, assuming its a nice name lol

It's not very practical though for you. OH will be fine and so will the child, but you'll be struggling to get the attention of one of two people with the same name all the time.

It might drive you nuts when you get the wrong person :eh:

I think it's ok. We had my boyfriends name on the list. But... We thought it was important for him to have his own name. My boyfriends name is Ryan.
My boys name is William Ryan...
William is after his papa - but he gets called Billy. So it's still his own name. But means a lot to the family.

Not sure I would give the wee one the same first name as Daddy, but that is just our personal preference. Our fave boys name happens to be my brother's name and we are still swithering about that.

Sounds like you are keen on Irish names - have to say I love Donal (in particular) and Corran. Quite like Brendan too - reminds me of the Irish comedian Brendan Burns. Patrick and Niall were faces of mine also but hubby was not keen.

Hiya, I'm a fan of the name John (cute to call him.Johnny) but maybe you could have Ewan (Euan) if you're not keen which I think is another derivative of John? As is Ian. As it happens I also like Gordon but I think I just like traditional names. What do you think of Joseph? I come from a family where my dad, brother and nephew (brothers son) all have the same name. I actually quite like it but I know it got confusing with post and phone calls. My dad and bro became 'big' and 'wee' :-)

I like your story about the name Freya, spooky! Meant to be!

Connal is a lovely Irish name?

I probs wouldn't call a baby after dad. Its not the same, but I'm gayle and my cousin is Dale and we were raised together, what a nightmare cause its so similar. When someone would shout on one of us we both would answer! Lol.

Freya was on my list too! Pretty! Xx

Brian has his whole name after his grampi :-) its tradition and i like it. Some may think its unoriginal or whatever but everyone is different, I mean some call their kids after cars or fruit :-s
As long as you like it nothing else matters :-)

I don't think it is a bad thing you want to name baby after daddy. My OH is named after his grandpa and also his uncle has the same name as do a few other men in his family. He doesn't like his name as it is so common so we won't be using it :)
I like your name choices, what about Darragh? That's Irish x
