If you go on google and type your town or city and 'Sling Library' you may find you have one nearby that you can go to and see a few different types and try some out.
Or you could look on facebook for babywearing groups and see if there's anyone local who has slings - most will be happy to chat to you and maybe even have a look at their slings
I love wraps best but some people find them too daunting or difficult to tie so prefer Mei Tais (Soft Structured Carriers like Ergo, Tula, Connecta etc).
I tried Mei Tais but found wraps to be comfier for me. And stretchy wraps are really nice for newborns.
Stretchy wraps need tying like woven wraps, and they are
long, but stretchy wraps don't need you to wrap quite as well/neat as with a woven so they are good to start out with, and are also cheaper than a woven wrap or a Mei Tai.
Ring slings are perhaps the easiest to start out with and better for newborns than Mei Tais, but they only go over one shoulder so for longer trips out with a heavier baby you'd be better with a two shoulder carrier (wrap or SSC).
Do look for a sling library as that will probably the best option for getting to grips with them before buying (or hiring) one.
