baby possitions questions (with risk of looking stupid)

So this is my first so im completely clueless about everything and im sorry if i sound stupid.. but after looking in the trim 3 threads i got a few questions..

-How does the midwife know if the head is engaged?
-how does the midwife know if the baby is breech?
-when does it start to matter how your baby lays?
-when does the midwife tell you about your babys position?

also.. i feel like my bump is massive but when midwife checked last week she said it was good size 26 cm at 25 weeks.. but im worried Noa is acually a very big baby..

I can often feel how Noa lays but i wouldnt have a clue whats his bum and what is his head..

i feel stupid but if i dont ask i will never know.. and sometimes when i speak to my midwife i dont understand everything as im not used to this babyrelated english.. (like i thought a breech baby ment it layed sideways until i looked it up on google this morning.. )

If baby is breech midwife can feel head (a ball shape) at the top of the tummy, and when babys head is engaged they can feel less of the head down low. And if baby is breech at 36weeks then they like to either turn baby or book a csection. I think they usually start talking about positions around 32weeks. And Bump measuring isnt very accurate but if the midwife is ever concerned about his weight they would send you for a growth scan which again isnt very accurate, but at this time your baby should be growing normally, they put on most of there weight nearer the end x

she feels how low down in the pelvis the baby is, it is measured in 5ths..

-how does the midwife know if the baby is breech?

the head feels quite wobbly and the bottom is a different shape and not quite so easy to jiggle when palpatated

-when does it start to matter how your baby lays?

at 37 weeks I would have been sent to 'breech clinic' to be scanned to check what position baby is in, but I guess when it starts to engage

-when does the midwife tell you about your babys position?

it is always recorded in my notes,

the rules are that you can measure 3-4cm behind or infront of the weeks you are, so at the minute you are measuring perfectly.

I found it easier to feel the head when Pip was breech, as the MW's had let me feel, it is sort of round and can be bounced from side to side a bit, I cannot feel the head as well now Pip is head down. But where I get hiccups has changed from the top to bottom half of my bump, saying that I don't think I really started feeling hiccups until I was a bit further along than you
The bottom to me feels harder and flatter than the head..

Try not to worry much just yet though, baby is still tiny in the scheme of things so feeling it is a lot different

Always facinates me when they can tell how the baby is lying. At 24 weeks my boy was lying across my stomach! Oh and I was also measuring a week ahead too.

They sometimes go by where they hear the heartbeat aswel,my son was undetected breech and weni was in labour the mw could feel his feet above my cervix but took ages to decide whether it was feet or hands cos his hb was detected were it should b (if that makes sense) also my mum had said to ne a week b4 that he was breech cos u could feel what I thought was his bum but was obv his head right under my ribs xx

Yeah that reminded me Emma. My midwife said he was lying across but she said by the HB that his head was to the right side of me.. He's moved now though as I can feel something by my ribs!!

Yeah my MW was unsure that ours was breech but when she looked for HB she explained that that was a breech HB reading. They're clever creatures in their own right are MW's! lol x

are you going to do antenatal classes at your hospital they can be real good at explaining everything

isobel am the same as you im 32 weeks tomorrow and i dont have the slighest clue what the hell any of it means lol the midwife always feel my stomach and she can tell the way the baby is lying when i feel my stomach i cant feel nothing its a weird one. But my next appointment at the midwife i reckon they will start seeing what way baby is lying and things will start to speed up x

thank god, feels like everyone knows everything and makes me feel so stupid.
but i guess we cant know it all if we have not been there and been trough it.

I'd love to know how little mans lying cos most of the time I get kicks in my lady area but then it feels like he gets hiccups down there then kicks high up!! I think he's gonna be a gymnast as he loves doing somersaults lol

mine have hiccups only in my twinkle and kicks in level with belly button but then when i lay on my side it feels like he kicks lower down.. so i dont know..

my babies transverse (sideways) and has been for ages, and i feel her hiccups really low too?
also they can pick up her heart beat from anywhere in my tummy now even though shes high up and side ways!!
