Hey Ladies

Went for a growth scan at 35 weeks yesterday because baby was measuring small and they've said she is measuring below the 5th centile.

I have to go back in two weeks for another growth scan and if baby hasn't grown enough they will induce me.

Anyone any experience? How likely is it that she'll have grown enough in 2 week?!

xx

Me, I have experience!

DS (2.5yo) was born naturally at exactly 40w weighing 6lb.

DD (4w) I was scanned every two weeks from like, 24w pregnant. She was expected to be small, (3rd centile), and because of this they didn't want me going past 40w, and said if she wasn't here by then they'd induce me on my due date.

I ended up going in for monitoring due to reduced movement at 36+5, and they decided to induce two days later at 37w.
She was born at 37+1, 5lb 6oz.

Unless they're really worried she's completely stopped growing, they should let you go to 40w xx

Hopefully, guessing we won't find out until 2 weeks time x

My daughter was sectioned at 37 plus 5 due to slowed growth and weighed 5 lb 15 oz so not that small really , they seem to think better growth out than in at that late stage if any risk placenta is failing or not doing as good a job as can be.

Lacey were you scanned so often with dd because of the size of ds or because of your size? My dd was 6lb3 at 40 weeks and this ones growth is now slowing, but I have had no extra scans xx

Mary poppins I was wondering that too, as Ive only been fundal height measured once so no comparison yet. I do have an unrelated fetal scan on wed so was going to ask the size guess then for my peace of mind as im still not needing maternity trousers, wearing normal jeans, butI do hide a baby reasonably well tbh i think as tall.

Ah that's good you can hopefully get some reassurance wednesday Jen! Let us know how it goes. I have only grown 3cm in 5 weeks so being measured in 3 weeks again and then growth plotted on graph to see if scan needed... However Belles growth scans were so far out I have no faith in them anyway! X

Ahh good they are going to be keeping a close eye on you then Mary poppins, yes I know what you mean, sometimes they can be really accurate and other times get it so wrong, esp when it's big decisions to pull babies out early. Xx

Ive been small for dates with all my older children and had extra scans and measured average on checking inside so I know i'm deceiving ;) You watch i have my biggest yet - 7 lb 9 oz I reackon ha

Me! Today , I had my growth scan at 35+3, baby below 5th centile on my own chart ( with my height and weight too ) I'm 5ft 6, was 55kg. Baby is now 4.6-4.10lbs.

I have to go back every week to check cord flow and growth.

They said if she maintains on her curve then it's ok, but if at any point she drops off they want to get her out.

One advise consultant did say was any reduced movement no matter how small I need to go to maternity assessment unit?

Hope your little one continues to grow. Xxx and that helps x they defined quite relaxed about it at hospital, my bump is 32weeks and all her measurements were 32 weeks ish too

They kept saying mine was due to DS being small. I'm 5'3", 8-9stone (normally :)), size 8-10 clothes, so pretty damn average.

They also told me if DS went to term he'd be about 9lb, so I didn't have much faith, but, they were closer (although still expected her to be bigger than she was) this time. Xx

I'm measuring 30 weeks, the consultant just said if she hasn't gained enough they'll wanna get her out in two weeks xx

Have you always measured small or has growth tapered off?

They seemed to pretty much agree that I just have small babies. Although she was so teeny, her growth followed the curve perfectly, just, below it rather than on it.

If it's slowed off, I assume they're worried that the placenta is starting to fail, in which case getting bub out sooner is better xx

Yeah I was measuring fine at 31 weeks but then haven't grown much since then, they checked the placenta and blood flow which is fine but will be checking it again in a week xx

Aww bless little baby, mines similar and I was really worried but then I realised closer monitoring, and extra scans! So really good they are checking baby every week.

4lbs is still a good weight if born now there's so much help that can be given. That's what consultant said to me today. I am a worrier but just try relax, eat lots of protein and u get to see baby again in a week!!! So positive thing to look forward to.

I'm a first time mum so no experience except going thru the same, but lots of ladies say the scans aren't 100% accurate, often wrong ( baby born bigger than estimates) x

Yeah I'm trying not to worry, the other half is the worrier haha.

Yeah I've heard that about the scans too :)

Thinking of finishing work just a few days earlier to have at least at home first!

Are you still in work? Xx

How bizarre how differently different areas/midwives do things. Fingers crossed all our babies will be born small enough to be gorgeous diddy little bundles, but big enough to be healthy and come straight home. Xxxx

Yeah I don't mind her being coming early or being small as long as she's healthy :) xx
