Hello all,
Just thought I would share my birth story of my baby boy!
It all started around 7pm on the 2nd October. I started feeling mild period pains.
8pm: The pains were still coming, so I decided to start timing them. They were about 7 minutes apart.
9pm: Had a case of some very loose stools (tmi)
10:45: The pains are now starting to get more intense
Something MUST be happening!!?!?
11:30: Backache has kicked in
That was all I wrote down. After this, my OH phoned the hospital and they told me to get in the bath and take pain killers. I did this but after about 45 minutes, I just couldn't stand being in the bath much longer. The contractions were coming faster so OH phoned hospital again.
They said to come in. LONGEST taxi ride EVER.
Once in hospital, I was crouching over in pain while trying to find the maternity section. My OH said he'll run ahead and get a wheelchair from somewhere, but I managed to walk and find it eventually... or rather he did, I just followed ha ha.
Made it in and there were no rooms/beds available to we went to another section. The first midwife said that once she examines me, if I am less than 3cms dilated then I will HAVE to go home due to no room available. That thought alone actually nearly killed me. I just COULDN'T go home with how I was.
She did the examination and THANK GOD I was 4cms!! I was staying in- YES!!!
Some time went by and the pain was getting much worse, so I tried the gas and air. It was ok but didn't really take away the pain, so I didn't really use it much.
I asked for anyother drug so they gave me a dose of pethidine. I don't think this took away pain either BUT it did make me feel drunk and spaced out, so I liked it.
A few hours went by and I was 7cms and was transfered into another room.
Not long later I was fully dialted and the midwife said I could push- wooohoo!!
TWO HOURS went by and his head just kept getting stuck. As it happens I was too small for his head to fit through! About 6 docors and nurses started filling the room, including students. But I didn't care because of the pain.
Tried pushing some more but his heart rate started slowing down a little with every push, so they had to take action. This would either be C section or foreseps.
In the end they decided it would be best if I were cut... omg horrible!! I think I even remember saying to the doctor "PLEASE DON'T CUT ME!!"
It had to be done though. Once the cut happened, his head was out with the next contraction, and then the rest of him with the following contraction.
I was such in a daze that I can hardly remember anything from then on.
He was safe but once the placenta was removed, I lost A LOT of blood
At one point the doctor did something and blood squirted EVERYWHERE.. all over the floor/wall/doctors. It really looked like a scene from Saw
I have been trying to forget all that though and just focus on the positive... our little gorgeous baby! He is so lovely! I can't stop kissing him.
He hardly cries at all, only when he is having a nappy chance or when he is naked.
That's what I remember from the labour (I was dazed) And he was all worth it!! Still feels surreal that he is finally here.
