I was induced on the 9th Oct, 13 days after our due date!
Induction day 11am - pessary inserted (3 previous failed sweeps by midwife and cervix was still high and unfavourable). Had to stay in hospital due to higher BP and blood results. Told it will be left in for 24hrs.
By 2pm ish I started to feel period cramp - hurrah - it is doing something. By tea time I was pretty uncomfortable and the pains were taking my breath away. After a hot shower in tears and quaffing maximum doses of the pain killers i was allowed I was still asking for more as the pain was constant. CTG at 11pm showed contractions were happening one after another without any break. Pessary was removed and over about an hour the contractions reduced to about 4mins or so apart.
Examined in the morning and from a standing start, low an behold I was 3cms - Waters broken about 11am.
The next few hours are a bit hazy. A Diamorphine dose didn't even touch the sides. Next exam I was 5cm - was only half way... Shortly after 3pm epidural was in. Amazing! Then I slept ... making up for zero sleep the night before.
Was pushing for an hour - which was a lovely yet surreal experience due to the epidural - and then the call was made that we needed forceps and episiotomy.
Our boy, Owen James, was born 10 October 2012 at 10.32pm weighing 8lbs 12.5oz and 56cm long.
