Thought it was about time I wrote this. It was pretty straight forward, could have gone slightly wrong though due to me being a dafty!

Wednesday 24th - I was 2 days overdue so had a sweep, midwife said I was 1-2CM dilated. As I wasn't getting any pains etc I decided to travel 100+ miles on the Thursday to the Take that concert in Glasgow.. Which was brilliant, was a uncomfortable but managed fine. :)

Friday - spent the entire day wandering round Glasgow shopping, still not getting anything although I was very very swollen. bought a couple of things and other half came down and picked us all up at 7pm got home for the back of 10pm.

Saturday - went to work for most of the day. thought I was getting little twinges but wasnt very sure so just ignored them. They weren’t regular or painful just strange. Went round to my other half’s friends house that evening, still nothing but random strange feelings in my back

Sunday 26th - woke up at about 5:30am having some pains in my back. stayed in bed for a while but it was uncomfortable so got up and caught up on Eastenders on the iplayer and just mucked about on the internet. etc. the pains were in my back so i didn't think about timing them or anything because for some reason it didn't click they were contractions . a wee while later when i ran out of things to watch i thought i would give the timing thing a shot. so did that for a while, they were about 5mins apart lasting 30 secs, still didn’t think it was time to go nor was I sure they were actually contractions. I had it in my head the contractions needed to last nearly a minute before it was anything. so waited and waited, they got closer together but were still only 30-40 secs long but they were getting painful, had to walk about to control it. Eventually woke my other half up and said i thought we might be having the baby today so could he get up. I also wanted someone to talk too, to take my mind off them. Up he got then i got another one, which was worse than the others but still manageable. after some mucikng around, i called the hospital and played it down alittle bit coz i didn't want to go into the hospital too soon ( big mistake) they said just wait as i was in labour but didn’t need to come in just yet. :oooo: half an hour later, they were very sore and i wanted to push soo bad! i couldn’t walk any longer through them and just wanted to crouch down and push. lol. called the hospital back, didn't tell them i wanted to push just said they were coming very quick now. they said come in. Which is where it was a VERY close call. after another contraction i forced myself to sit down in the passenger seat of the car and my other half made me put my seatbelt on.. WTF! well all the way to the hospital (30-40 min drive) I was hanging out the car window and couldn't sit on the seat as i just wanted to push! it was the most uncomfortable car drive EVER. I was telling my other half i wanted to push and he was telling me to hang on but i couldn't and had a couple of little pushes.:lol:he was crapping his pants and driving at speeds he shouldn't be. At one point i nearly told him too pull over coz i couldn’t take it anymore and wanted to have him on the roadside. Eventually got to the hospital and had to book in at the reception! pmsl! i couldn't answer any of the questions, couldn’t even remember my phone number... anyway, midwife came to collect me and refused to get in the wheelchair as I could walk in-between contractions. got to the midwife unit. she said i was fully dilated and just to push! what a relief that was after holding it in for so long.. haha. anyway baby Albert was born less than an hour later weighing 7lb 13 ozs. midwife said I was the quickest on the ward that day. lol

Ended up having to stay in over night after waiting around all day and them telling me I could go home once they had done the paperwork. Little Albert only fed once coz he was sleeping most of the time, but they wanted him to feed again before we left, which of course he refused to do. after i got to the ward, I ended up passing a MASSIVE blood clot, which scared the crap out of me as I never even knew about them. This thing was huge though, about the size of a very large grapefruit! had a few more of them the next day but got home anyway. and little Albert fed no problem the next day too, which is what i thought would happen.

Lovely birth story, lucky you didn't have a roadside baby!! Congratulations and well done :good: x

Glad all turned out well, and congratulations on the birth of your little man!

Wow congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!! X

congrats! Sounds like you coped so so well!

I have to admit, I laughed at the thought of you hanging out of the car window not wanting to sit down lol. xx

Congratulations! I think you took the advice to stay at home as long as possible a little too literally!! Lol x

Fab story, fills me with so much relief that I should be able to hang on at home for a good while!

Congrats on baby Albert x

Amazing birth story, you did so well. Congratulations for Albert xxx

wow...congratulations...was this your first baby hon? x

Thank you :).

Thanks, it is a good name - everyone is like what have you called him with a surprised look on thier face but i think its a great name. There shouldn't be anyone else in his class called it anyway. I like the old names and it suits him as he looks like a little old manny.

I wouldn't recommened waiting as long as i did, i must have looked like a rigt nutter hanging out the window of the car- making strange noises. heehee. The contractions aren't as bad as pushing the head out that bit i remember was awful and very hard work. Was very surprised i didn't tear!

Erm no it wasn't which i suppose makes it worse because I should have know i was in labour and close to having him. lol. my only excuse was i did have her a long time ago and couldn't remember what it was like.. oh well i will know for next time. :)

He is a great baby, hardly cries and sleeps most of the time. He is only up twice a night too. So far we have been very lucky.

Well done you! A one-hour labour would suit me fine (apart from all the other car related things and near-roadside birth incident!!)
