Babies watching TV?

I rarely have the TV on in general tbh, even when she goes down for a nap I tend to just read so it's quite quiet in our house. Usually on a Saturday or just before he tea every evening OH will put Disney channel on and watch it with her but it's never for more than 10 mins or so. She gets far too distracted by it. If it's on she just stares at it, pays no attention to me or her toys whatsoever that's why I don't like it having it on much but what you're saying about taking a shower or washing up etc etc I don't see any harm in that at all. Angel usually has a nap around 9/10am and I shower then but that just works for us iykwim and I usually just leave her with her toys if I need to wash up xx

Those are the only times he's in front if the tv Thomas has it on but we play donuts only on in the back ground I dint think a little time hurts x

I barely watch the TV myself too , if i watch anything (greys anatomy ) Its online and after she's in bed x

Ok so after this thread I started letting DS watch a couple of episodes of Boo a day. Then this morning he was reading a story and he saw a picture of a Hippo. He pointed to it and said 'pippo' then proceeded to open his mouth really wide like a yawn which is from an episode of Boo where they show a hippo and call it 'yawning hippo'. It was so cute and clearly something he'd def learned from Boo and in a short space of time!

We don't have a tv  well we do have one but we pay no subscription for it so you can't really see a thing.
We mostly use it to watch DVDs or downloaded movies etc.
I strongly dislike the idea of tv with kids of any age. As for me playing outside the yard or pretend imaginative playing are far more important for them and sth that they only do for some years while they will probably spend a big amount of their life's as teenagers ad adults watching tv.
But while I really don't like it I don't think it can majorly harm a baby or a kid to watch some tv especially to give mummy some time to get things done and obviously for lo to learn new things and have fun.
As our LO will be trilingual  we will use some tv/pc time for it to watch things in the non dominant language.

Yeah def Hope-DS loves books and playing outside more than anything but I thought I'd just see what he'd be like. I can't believe he learnt the hippo thing so fast though! I suppose a lot depends on what you let then watch and how long for!

I hate with a passion nonsense word shows! Like teletubbies and in the night garden! I do not see the need! But that's my personal preference and opinion!

I also hate them! Tegan does watch a little bit of in the night garden before bed as it calms her down a bit other than that she doesn't watch much tv unless she's poorly! x

I'm not a fan on them, but H watches in the night garden sometimes, I thinks it's the music though she likes, she loves musicnx
