Artificial insemination at home

Me and my civil partner caitlin are trying for a baby!

We found a donor online. Last month i used ovulation strips bought on ebay. I tested every day from when i finished my period as i was worried about missing it. It never turned positive . Therefore we guessed the date and think we missed it by a few days!!!

This month we bought clear blue ovulation sticks and on sunday it had a smiley face!! So we inseminated on sunday night and tonight.
Now just fingers crossed!! I hate the 2 weeks of waiting!

Anyone else out there trying to concieve with this method? let us know how your getting on.

hi exotic,
what is NI method? x

In the donor community these terms are used.

AI = Artificial Insemination (Pot + Syringe outside of clinic i.e. in Recipient's house or hotel)
AI+ = AI with benefits (Recipient will help the donor get off)
PI = Partial Insemination (Donor masturbates and just before coming will ejaculate into the Recipient - i.e. intercourse strictly for procreation not recreation.)
NI = Natural Insemination (Unprotected Sex)
XI = Exotic Insemination (patent expires 2022)

I think you're already aware of the clinic insemination types (IUI, ICI, IVF etc.)

How interesting.

Me and hubby just don't get time due to work so this maybe an option! X

Hi!
My husband and I are trying for a baby through artificial insemination. This will be our second cycle trying. Last cycle my period was 8 days late and despite having BFN's I was convinced I was pregnant! This cycle I will be taking it easy but I have one concern...

Do you find that syringes are unsuitable? I feel like I can't get the sperm close enough to my cervix. Does anybody know if I can find a longer syringe with a rounded end instead of the usual type? I have been looking online for oral syringes and needless syringes and just can't find anything I think would be suitable! I even went to a chemist (one I don't normally go to!) and he asked me what it was for and I just blurted it out and tried not to look uncomfortable discussing it. I would rather not go through that again! He didn't have any suggestions either and when customers started to queueing up it was awkward!:oooo:

Any advice anyone?

Hi there congratulations on ttc :)

We used an instead cup / soft cup! It's a little ring with a bag on the end used for a period but works a treat for insemination! Just put the sperm into it and insert it so it sits over the cervix! Can be left in for 12 hours! Feel free to ask any other questions :) good luck

Hi
I got mine from ebay. You can get them in sterile packages to . I think you should try a bigger capacity syringe this may be longer and easier to handle. Don't use a baster as its so wide you get an airlock and vacumn!

I wouldn't sweat it to much as most penises aren't at your cervix at the right moment. many arent long enough for that. So long as its close and the sperm are swimmers they should be through your cervix within 10 mins.

My tip is to push the plunger really slowly this allows air to escape upwards , if you do it to fast it squirts out!

Good luck

Looked at mine and they are 20ml this means a bigger syringe but so much easier to handle.
good luck

Myself and my partner are trying to conceive through artificial insemination. We found a donor online and 8 days ago had our first go at inseminating. I have everything crossed it worked, but I have had sore breasts and a kind of cramp feeling in my tummy for the past few days. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing! How successful has anyone else been with AI at home? I need some faith!!!!

Good luck and welcome..... I love the clearblue digi but they at so expensive so in using cheapies from the Internet just to be sure I don't miss anything and then nearer the time I think I'm ovulating I get the digi out because every time you by the clearblue you get the stick and everything you can't just buy The strips soooooo enjoying xx

Ooo im so glad this thread as been bumped!

We too are using AI. my husband had a vercetomy 4 years ago and we simply can not afford to get it reversed, we we are going down the donor route.

We have found an amazing donor from an online website, he lives 20 mins away from us which is fantastic!

I have long cycles so im not due to ovulate untill Dec, grrrr.

Im not sure what to use either, I have got syringes and sample pots from work (im a nurse) and i have also brought a soft cup, altho i cant imagine how it goes in, its quite big!!

Good luck to you, maybe we could be TTC buddies? :)

x

Also, im not sure whether to use a 10ml or a 20ml syringe?

x

Ive got 20mls and it works fine.but whatever is most comforatble for you.
20 mins I am so jealous, mines 150 miles away still trying to find someone closer.

good luck
