Hi everyone
I would like to announce the birth of our son Arthur Bruce Lennox, born 30-11-2012 at 5.11pm weighing 8lb 7oz, absoloutly smitten, had a tramatic birth. Xxxxx

Thursday 29th November around 6pm i started with what i felt like that i needed a poo feeling, followed with on and off period pains in my lower back, i thought this was braxton hicks as i hadn't had any of these sensations before and seeing as i was going to be induced on the friday morning, i thought it was down to nerves too, as i have IBS and this is what it feels like when i get nervous and need the loo. Well any how we popped out to pets at home and these feelings was coming every 15minutes, then 13 then 11mins apart, still didn't think anything of it, i got home and went in the bath about 9.30pm and they went off so i was thinking defo braxton hicks, so off to bed i went about 10.30pm with an odd niggle of tummy ache nothing painful, but around 10.45pm i woke up to cramping in my tummy and went to the loo as i thought i needed a poo, got back in bed and drifted off to wake up at 11.30pm with stronger 3 minutes apart period pains, i went to the loo had a wee and wiped myself and a tiny bit of mucus blood was on my tissue, so i know it wasnt BH, i tuck some paracetomol and got back in bed but at 12.10am the pain was coming good and strong and i had to wake my fella up and tell him (THERE HERE) lol....
We both got up as it was to painful to lay down and my contractions was coming every 2 mins and i had to ring the hospital for how quick they was coming, i got a lovely midwife on the phone who asked me to go in and get checked out as she could here i was in agony and could hardly speak, so we left for the hospital around 1.10am, my fella was flapping and i had to shout at him to slow down lol.
Got to the hospital and was put on the monitor, they found i was only 1cm but contracted 4 in ten minutes and for about 40 seconds, so they advised me to stay in, was moved up onto the ward around 3.30am in a room of my own so my partner got to stay with me, he was shattered so i made him get in my bed while i had a bath, they slowed the contractions down if i sat up straight but as soon as i laid back, it was agony. The contractions had started in my legs now, back and tummy, i was sobbing as every time they came i wanted to jump out of my bed but my legs just buckled from under me
I buzzed for the midwife around 6.40am and she examined me and said i was 2cm and she could break my waters, so she said she wanted me to go down to the labour ward. At 7.20am i was moved to the labour ward and was put on gas and air, this was a great help, contractions was bearable as it was taking the edge off them. I got 2 midwifes one a student, amy and pavla, who was lovely, they listened to me as i told them of my fear and panic and they was just fab and so understanding. The doctor who was going to do my epidural had been called into theatre so i had to wait, they wanted me to have morphine because they said my contractions was very strong on the monitor but i declined and just battled on with the gas n air. Around 10.45am the doctor came and did my epidural and around 11.30am i said to everyone i felt like i had just rolled in from a nightclub pissed as a fart and was happy as larry as the sun came up lol
my fella just laughed, to which i then said who's number one today??? he searched it and said olly murrs, my reply was oh good, i cant stand that t@at lol, my midwife could tell i was high as a kite luckily and the epi was working
i could feel my legs, as it was only a mobile epi and i wasn't fully numb, i only pressed my button a few times, i didn't need the drip up at first because i was contracting that quick. the doctor then came back and examined me and said i was 3-4cm and then she broke my water to find Arthur had pooed inside of me, i had lots of waters they wouldn't stop flowing for a couple of hours.
Midwife said she would check me in 4hrs to see how far i had progressed, but around 1pm i had to have the doctor back and top my epidural back up as the baby had moved to the right blocking nerves into my left side so i felt all the contractions in my left side, but after she topped it up i went to panicy as i didn't like the feeling it brought and started to get tachyccardia and it frightend me.
The doctor came back and sat with me and held my hand and explained i had to calm down and it was normal to get like this when you suddenly go numb, i asked her to turn it off as i didn't want it on, so she did.
I was checked at 3pm for the student midwife to say i cant feel a cervix and i wasn't sure what she was telling the other midwife. She then turned round to me and said you are fully dilated and will be pushing in an hour.
Well then fear set in big time and i just cried n cried, and said im sooo scared, this was it my panic attacks had all been around this moment. They managed to calm me down, my fella was amazing all through labour, he stayed sooo strong for me.
At 3.50pm they said right its pushing time, but for some reason my contractions had started to fade off, i could feel my contractions as the epidural had wore off and it was in agony again, after an hour of pushing the baby's heart rate started to drop low and the next minute the room was filled with doctors, midwifes, baby doctors, theatre staff, they said my baby's head wasn't dropping and was still mobile and the contractions wasnt bringing it down, the doctor said i think we are going to have to do a c section, to which i begged and begged please don't, i asked if their was another way, he said he will exam me to see how well i was pushing, and if not well then it was straight to theatre, with my everything i pushed and pushed while he examined me and he said right Amanda, i am going to suck your baby out as you are pushing well, but im going to have to cut you too, it tuck minutes to push and push his head out with little suction as when Arthur was born he didn't have a suction cap mark on his head, and then i panted to get the rest of him out,
He came into the world at 17.11pm on the Friday 30/11/12 weighing 8'7lb
He was put straight onto me skin to skin, but only for a few minutes as the baby doctors wanted him quickly to check him over.
I saw the midwifes weighing what i thought was a placenta so i asked if it was the placenta they said no you've lost alot of blood
I tried not to panic but my heart rate shot up to svt of 178 and then i had all the doctors around me while one was trying to stop the bleeding.
After a while he managed to stop the bleeding and quickly moved me to HDU- high dependancy unit, to which my bp was very low, heart rate high and i had to have a blood transfusion as i lost 1100mls of blood and my hb was 7.4.
I came home sunday night but wished i had stayed in because i felt soo poorly
i felt weak, and dizzy and then i started with the winter sickness and runs bug, so its left me lifeless for a week as i cant take my iron medication and antibiotics for a urine infection, then to top it off i started with cold night sweats and mystitous...
But on the plus side Arthur is doing amazing, is a great feeder, hes put on 5oz in 6 days, sleeps really well and life as a mummy is AMAZING xxxxx
