ARGH MIL ruined our name :(

Hi Ladies,

Me & OH decided that we are going to keep the name of our little one secret from everyone as a bit of a suprise for when he is born. So after lots of discussions about names, we have pretty much decided on Harrison (on birth cert) and calling him Harry. However, after going over to OHs parents house she was talking about "all the rubbish modern names" that shes heard about in the school she works in, and she said Harrison was one of them. Her exact words were "it just sounds like a last name to me, very silly".

OH did really well to just sit there and be like 'yeah, i suppose' but my blood was boiling. Why cant people just keep there noses out of our buisness!

Anyway, I dont know what to do know, I have really fallen in love with the name, but she has made me feel like its not good enough

Damn pregnancy hormones making me angry about something that shouldnt matter!

I know! I am not going to change my mind just because one person doesnt like it, but this is the exact reason we didnt want to tell anyone. So nobody could put there two pence in, once he is born and has the name then there is nothing they can say haha x

Ive always liked Harrison... yes it can be a surname but so can LOADS!!!
Harrison is a gorgeous name and i would like ur MIL spoil your choice..! Stick with it hun.

I got told Noah is a very unusual name that they have never heard of before..!? :S lol!!
But alot have said they love the name, either way if people liked it or not Noah was set in stone before i even fell pregnant lol!

We have a Harrison and it isn't a modern name it is intact very traditional!
I think you should ignore her!

Awe i.think its a lovely name hun and all that matters is that u amd ur oh love it! Bugger anyone else. my mil is very opinionated and had a pop coz we r goin to find out gender but we r doin.it anyway...to me its an.added bonus i get to annoiy her in the process lol

Go for it, it's your babys perfect name chosen by you two..

My mum knew my boys name , I went on to have a daughter, so it was unused!, she told me she didn't like it, it was a bit odd etc, then 9 years later I had another baby, and we called him Devon , the same name we loved.. and do you know after birth, she kept quiet, she thinks it suits him, and spent ages taking a picture of a motorway sign on the way down to devon for his baby congrats card it said "welcome to devon", so your mil will just have to get used to your name...

It's a lovely name, and I also like the shortening of Harris, so he has lots of options..

Which is even more reason to call your boy Harrison! It's a lovely name and it's absolutely none of her business to talk about names! You are right to stick with this name, it's great and she will get used to it. xx

Its your babys name. There's most likely names she would pick that you would cringe at. I don't know what she's like but she might be embarrassed if she know that's the name you chose. And once his here and named its to late what'd she gunna do. I didn't tell many people my baby's name and was shocked when one of my good friends criticized it, then forgot what it was and asked me again and o told her I'm not telling her after what she said last time she didn't ask again lol. No one says anything now because it's not going to be changed.

go for Harrison, it doesnt matter what she thinks and if she knew you had thought of it, she wouldnt have said it. lots of people dont like names, but as soon as baby is here, within a day you cant imagine them being called anything else.
