Are you scared to take your child to hospital?

Hi all!

My 18 month-old son has fallen over twice this weekend and as a result has two rather fetching bumps on his forehead. He's absolutely fine, but it got me thinking: a lot of the time if my child is injured I'm afraid to take him to the hospital in case the doctors think that I've injured him on purpose, or beaten him. I then think how awful it would be if they did think that and took my child away. Every parent's worst nightmare!

My question is this: have you ever shied away from taking your child to hospital in case the doctors thought you were to blame, and it wasn't a simple accident?

hi we once had a appointment with the health visitor and they day before my son was playing in the garden and tripped banged his head leaving a massive bruise and grazing both knees and elbows. I felt awful but it wasnt anyones fault. We still went to see the health visitor and to be honest she was a total cow about it and gave me what i9 took as a right telling off!! I couldnt believe it! since then i have been very conscious about him when he has bruises and grazes! it shouldnt be that way at all!!!

No not scared as such, but when were were last there , about 6 weeks ago , with my second son Toby who is now 10 years old, (he spilt his head open at the park with his mates! ) the minor injuries unit asked my hubby for doctor details (normally me who does all that!) and he said he couldn't remember ! and so he asked if they had it already from last time, which they did............it made me think!!

Thanks for the feedback so far ladies! It's a shame that we live in a society where we even have to ask the question.

Keep your responses comin'!

Dr's are really good at knowing the signs of non accidental injury, normal loving parents need not to feel unsure about seeking medical attention for lo's x

To be honest I don't think it's something that would even cross my mind, if LO needed attention then that would be my only focus. Accidents happen, and as cosmic said, professionals should be well trained and experienced enough to see if something dodgy has happened. An accident could potentially turn into wilful neglect if medical treatment is withheld because of a fear like that, surely?!
