Hi all

had my doctors appointment this morning, all seems well, i'm 30+6 and measuring 30 but she said this was fine.

I asked about my last lot of bloods, she said hadn't i heard anything as she'd noticed something about iron on my notes so she looked it up and said my iron levels were low and that the doctor i am registered under had written me a prescription for iron tablets out a week ago!!! They were still sat at the receptionsts desk :x

Anyway she said they were not that low .. 10.2 .. i have no idea about iron levels so dont know if its low or not but i looked at my last lot and they were 13.6.

I know a lot of you girls are on iron supplements and just wondered if you could shed any light on this for me.

I'm not surprised they have dropped really as i'm not eating, and i mean NOT eating, i just can't face food at all, i spoke to the chemist and have been having complan drinks so i don't deplete all my vitamins completely, i know its not ideal but the best i can manage at the mo. i do try and eat but its hard and rare.

anyway thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give me.

my Iron levels are often low... around 8 through to 15 is my "normal" range  But 10 is quite low... although the docs should have called you sooner tbh...

I have digestive problems and there are days i really can't face eating... me and food have been enemies for a long time, long before I got pregnant... and I use complan type drinks (they are different here) and honestly they are really useful.... the ones I have actually substitute a meal completely without the person loosing weight and you can live off them (have done this several times, although it gets a bit boring after a few weeks )....

As long as you are making sure your general stores aren't low then you will be fine... just remember, you should be taking lots of these complan drinks a day if you are not eating anything... about 8 a day I think is norm... as your calorie intake will now be higher because the baby is demanding more..

I've worried about this alot, but I've always been told that the baby will destroy you before it is harmed, and will just munch up all your vitamins and minerals and leave you with nothing... You'll be sick as a dog, but baby will be happy and healthy.

Take your iron tablets because you need them... also take some other multi vitamin too... if you have too many vitamins in your body, you body just chucks out the excess, but in your case you are trying to get a whole day's nutrients without food so you need as many sources as possible... :)

Thanks Squig, with the complan here i can take a max of 4 sachets a day cause of the Vitamin A content in them, 1 sachet is like a snack, 2 is equivalent to a main meal so i'm getting like 1 meal, 2 snacks a day

I'm guessing if i get a multivitamin as well i'll have to get one without any vitamin A in cause i'm using my daily quota with the complan drinks :? can u even get a multi vitamin without vitamin A in it??

You're iron levels aren't dangerously low but bearing in mind you are pregnat they coud do with a bump up. Please try and eat. I have some fairly major stuff going on at the moment and I have no appetite at all and feel sick if I do but you have your kids to think about and for their sake as much as you're own, please try. I take complan if I really can't eat anything. I also have cup a soups, orange juice and anything else liquid I don't have to chew.

I don't know whats happening with you but try and look beyond whats happening at the moment. Things won't always seem so bad. I am thinking about you anyway, chin up sweetie.

i had exactly same thing happen with my docs during pregnancy. Iron tablets were minging.. gave me constipation and black poo

best thing to do is try and get as much iron in your diet as poss but know its obviously hard if your having trouble eating. Dont worry too much though.

I was bit naughty and stopped taking my tablets after a while, i think i was 9 something.

Mine were the same,10.2,when was pregnant,it's mean to be 14 or something-but the reason they out you on tablets is cause if you bleed during the birth it will get worse-during my section i lost twice the amount of blood i was meant to,and mine dropped to 8,they nearly gave me a haemoglobin transplant, they decided not to but I wish they had cause I still have low levels and am really tired easily

im not sure, but i was 14 most of the way through and was told that was the highest they had seen for a while
