Iron levels?

Does anyone know what is normal level? I got blood test results back today and they are 99 which the midwife said was very low and i therefore need iron tablets.

Was it 9.9?

My Hb level which relates to iron was 10.5 the other day (normal low end of range is 11) so I have had to start iron tablets.

It might vary depending on the lab used and the units they measure in. Maybe yours was 99 and the normal for your lab is around 110 if they used different units

Iron level test

Normal serum iron values are as follows:


Adult males: 75-175 micrograms/dL


Adult females: 65-165 micrograms/dL


Children: 50-120 micrograms/dL


Newborns: 100-250 micrograms/dL.

Normal levels are between 11.4 and 14.5. Mine came back at 10.2, so have been on iron tablets ever since.

Yeah my iron levels have come back at 9.9 and I need iron supplements to bump it back up again

They always drop a bit in pregnancy - I was prescribed iron tablets from 18 weeks which I only took 3 times a week instead of daily and my Hb has dropped from 12 to 10.5 despite taking supplements, going to take them daily for a bit now.
