ok literally just been told im going in this thursday for a c-section

does it hurt and if so how long for

what can i expect?

The actual process doesnt hurt, the recovery does hurt. Its hard to reach for things, pick up baby, sit up, anything that basically involved tummy muscles. You feel better and better each day though. Good luck xx

Hope it goes ok hun.
My sister just had one and was discharged 48 hrs later. Its not easy but keep on top of the painkillers dont wait till your in pain to take them. x

well my midwife thinks i could be out by sat if all goes well, oh yh i plan to keep on top of that pain lol especially as im a wimp

ive had 2, its painful recovering and you will need help lifting baby from cot etc so its good to keep baby near to you and not too low down. its good to try walking around as soon as you can other wise you are left bent over. also you will feel a sharp pain in your right shoulder, i dont know why except that they pump you with air when they operate and the air gets trapped! lol I was told to get up and walk and fart alot, it works.

laughing and coughing hurts and if you do have strong painkillers remember to take it easy just cos you cant feel the pain it doesnt mean your not over pulling on the scar.

they took my stitches out on the 5th day which scared me because i thought that was too soon and i would split open! but it was ok.

you wont be able to cuddle your little girl much so get others to show her lots of love

yep had one but know ladies who havent that have suffered with pain too... some prefer having one some dont. As the others have said keep ontop of the pain relief it gets easier everyday and dont do too much. You feel a pulling when youve over done things and feel queezy so just take it easy xxx

oh nooo i need my cuddles off my little girl :(

how long does it take to get bk to some sort of normality?

Hey....I had one two weeks ago and feel generally ok as long as I take my meds! Like the other girls said...it's easy to forget it's there and overdo it because of the medication, which I've done a few times!

Am definitely feeling better each day and was told I'm ok to lift LO, just nothing heavier than her!

Best of luck Hun xxx

I change her on the bed so don't have to bend too far or OH does it! Feeding was tough and I had a few wobbly moments with hormones etc but perservered and we've cracked it now! Just need to find comfy positions....I found lying on the bed to feed was the easiest as it didnt strain my stomach like sitting up does!

It's not been as bad as I thought it would be Hun and is Sooo more than worth it......just get to be pampered by OH for a good few weeks which is a bonus lol!

Make sure u try and rest as much as poss as I've not been very good at that xxx

I've had two honey and am due another in 3 weeks time and honestly the first day you will feel not too bad due to the pain relief. The day after I always found the worst but its not too bad, just have to keep up with the pain killers. I was able to change my daughter, your a little restricted until they take the catheter out but once you can get up and go to the loo yourself then your fine. its a little sore and you will be slow to walk but it gets better daily. They usually want you up and walking around as soon as is possible, I had to have my catheter in longer with my second but I was still walking around my room. It actually does help to be active as soon as you feel able. You will be gassy for a few days, ask for peppermint water/tea and possibly Lactulose to keep your bowels moving, don't be scared to pass wind, if you hold it in it will be painful - this is what I found to be the worst thing!

My daughter was placed onme for skin to skin as sson as she was cleaned up so just before we were wheeled out of theatre and she never left me after that! My hubby did the first day of nappy changes but I had to take over from the evening as he had to go home, I was sore but I did it - if you need a hand just ask the staff they will be happy to help. I breastfed fine too and they even let me use an electric pump to settle my mind that there was something coming out and she was feeding! I was only in 2/3 days with both and was back driving or able to drive by 4 weeks post op. xxx

I agree completly with Laura C - I have had 4 sections and all fine, the last actually was the most sore (not from the tummy) the shoulder pain (fake pain, due to bleeding more into diaphramm apparently and it tricks your shoulders into pain), you may not have that, my tummys has seen better days now!!

You will be fine with holding baby , they really are not heavy when newborn, and you will soon learn how to move about that suits you best, (keep legs together!) and make sure your slippers are slip on ones , cause you won't be able to bend to reach them if the grippy dolly shoe ones to get them on!). Changing will be fine , just have the bedside table sideways down the bed next to you, and your bag (open top or sports bags are good), on the chair right next to bed, so you can grab nappies, bags and mat towelswhen needed yourself).

Get OH to have his camera with him in theartre , yourll get some lovely shots.

Oh make sure when your visitors leave, you ask them to put back anything they have moved , eg chairs, table, and to get you any bots you might want for the night, my midwifes kept moving things about and leaving room!!! I would have to get out of bed to put it back!!

Heres my story if it helps

Good luck hun, nothing to worry about at all

thank you all for your great answers, it has helped alot as i was thinking well if im stuck in bed what do i do with the baby lol.

as OH is off for 3 weeks now i intend to milk this c-section for all its worth, sshhhhh dont tell him hehehe

oh well at least ive tried most birthing methods now, labour - pushing, ventouse, cuts and forceps with first, c-section with this one

I had one 13 years ago with my first and I am having a elective again this time. I barely remember any pain or how traumatic it was even though it was a emergency which is why I am happy to do it again. I held my baby all the time and within 3 days was up in town having a potter around the shops. Don't be a martyr though and have the pain killers if you take them before the pain actually kicks in then it keeps it under control. xxxx

if i have him on the 6th of october, will i be able to make it to my great aunt and uncles 60th wedding anniversary party on the 29th, its about a 4- 4 and a half hr drive away?

Yep definitely I would say. Just be comfy in the car and watch the belt round your tummy maybe pop a cushion round behind your back. Just expect to be shattered after cos when you have had a few weeks not doing much something like that wears you out. xxx

I'm having a similar dilemma - got my FIL's 60th birthday on 24th November, so I'll be 4 weeks post op. I think I will probably be well enough if all goes as planned, no infection etc but it's baby that will determine whether I go really. Ive basically said assume i can't come but I'll see how I am. They have said I can bring baby along so that's one less worry but I honestly dont think you can commit completely until nearer the time. It's a long drive and your scar will still be tender, so to sit for 4 hours is a big ask i think. I had to sort my sons funeral straight after a section, visit hospitals and appts re arrangements and organise food etc for funeral less than 2 weeks post op - I was ok, a little sore and tired.

I just don't think I'm gonna make party due to the fact I plan to breastfeed and plus I'll feel fat and frumpy! Means I will have to buy a dress I will prob never wear again due to still being a little swollen in the tummy area. Xx

Oh meant to add, the more you do the more you tend to bleed after the section. If your period comes bang on time be prepared for some heavy bleeding too. My first period after a section is always very heavy flow. Much worse than post op, I find I don't bleed to much after the op just my first period - so this could be around this time. Just something to consider xxx

hopefully i shall be able to go as ive not seen some close family since xmas, hopefully we can leave early enough and stop off at my moms for a few hrs to break the journey up, plus we are stopping over so at least i wont have to do another long trip till next day

guess i will just have to see how i feel
