My boobs are so painful! :( They burn and I've got shooting pains :( It's worse at night it seems. Saw doc this morning and she thought it wasn't mastitis but thrush and gave me a cream for my nipples and to give to Harry.

Has anyone else had this?? What symptoms did you have? Did the cream help the pain? And how the hell do you put cream on an 8 week old baby's gums without them eating it all??!!

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi I've just been prescribed micronazole as think my little one has thrush this tongue is constantly covered in white coating apparently if its milk it should go away?! Also my nipples are hot and itchy I wouldn't say painful although I do get shooting pains but thought that was due to milk let down. The gel they prescribed is for 4 months and over, my baby's only 5 weeks old! But apparently it's ok to use?x

That's what I've been prescribed. Spoke to the pharmacist about the 4 months thing and she said it was only for licensing purposes that they put that but drs can prescribe it for younger babies...

My nipples feel like they're burning though not itchy. How often are you getting shooting pains? Is it just when feeding? How are you managing to give your baby the gel - I found it very difficult to get it in and then he just seemed to eat it anyway! xx

I get the shooting pains between feeds.
I've been putting a little on my finger and trying to rub it on his tongue (not with much luck!) he seems to just dribble a lot after so I don't think it's working

I am FF but James was prescribed Nystatin for his oral thrush.

It's in a pipette and you apply it 4 times a day. It worked well but ran out too soon so I need some more as it's not fully cleared up.

xxxxx

I'm getting loads of shooting pains :( They're horrible....

I've been doing some research online and found this useful document:

www.bristol.nhs.uk/your.../breastfeeding/idoc.ashx?...1

Don't know if you can access that? If not, just type it into Google...

Also, wondering if you're treating yourself too as if not you could be reinfecting your bubba each time you feed? On that document it says that the gel is not suitable for treating nipple thrush which is what the doc gave me, so I'm thinking I might have to go back to docs. So frustrating! xxx

Yes they told me to rub the gel on to my nipples I usually do it after each feed. I was sceptical and asked of it would treat me and she said yes? Ill give it a few days if not ill have to go back. Hope you feel better soon as if breastfeeding wasn't hard enough as it is! X

we got this too but my lo hated it and screamed and screamed. i was prescribed some pretty hardcore antibiotics to get rid of it from my boobs as it can be a swine to get rid of. My nipples were like beacons they were that red!

I've just left a message for my normal dr to call me so I'll let you know what he says... Hope you and your baby get better soon too xxx

What were you prescribed hon? Was it fluconozole? xxx

yep that sounds about right... did the trick. how's your boobs today?x

Still getting shooting pains but maybe a little easier? I'm not sure the doc will give me fluconozole that easily. He said the next step would be to try the cream and only if that doesn't work will they give me the fluconozole. Joy! I'm eating raw garlic (nice!) as it's supposed to be antifungal and also taking probiotics so hoping that will help too... Sod's law that Harry seems to be going through a growth spurt right now! My poor nipples!!! xxx

Ouch. I think my GP was quite sympathetic as she is a breastfeeding mum. I'm sure if i had seen one of the male docs he would have given me cream. I can't think of anything else that would help you. I know when my thrush was in full go i found that when my lo started suckling quite hard it was a bit of relief from the pain. I know that sounds strange but it's like an itch you can't scratch but with his suckling something was reaching the pain. I just wanted him to feed all the time!

Yeah male or young childless docs have no clue! You were lucky with your doc! My boobs are more sore than itchy. I'm sure Harry would love to feed all the time right now if I let him lol! How's things with your LO anyway? xx

My Lo is great. we had a tricky start as he was diagnosed (after 3 trips to a&e) with laryngomalacia and had an operation when he was 4 weeks old (where he stopped breathing on the table and then had an episode where his body temp dropped considerably and he started having 'jerky movements') now he's really coming on although at times if I just don't catch the signals we have a melt down. I'm loving his sleeping patterns at the moment. He likes to be in bed by 7pm and i dream feed between 10 and 11 , he wakes between 2-4 and then if I'm lucky he goes till half 6 and then we just get up! Although I am aware this could all change with a blink of the eye so just trying to enjoy it at the moment.

Are your boobs any better? I remember with my eldest DS when i had thrush daktarin was eventually prescribed for us both and it worked wonders for us both. xx

OMG that sounds horrendous! Must have been so stressful! Glad he's doing better now and sleeping pretty well too, long may it last!

Boobs feel a little better today - not so many shooting pains, so I guess Daktarin is helping. How long did you have to use it before it cleared your thrush up? xxx

It wasn't great but pretty much put it to the back of my mind now.

It was a bit of a marathon to get rid of it but I think within a couple of weeks of using it I'm pretty sure it was all gone and I felt better. I still get the odd shooting pain but that's normal apparently.

Do I remember you saying that you suffered from exhaustion or some related illness? If so how ya managing? if not then apologies I get all muddled as to who has what. :eh:

xx

Thanks for that :) fx it will bugger off very soon...

You have a good memory - yes I do have health issues and unfortunately they have been worse of late which makes things very challenging as I feel quite rough most of the time. I'm getting alot of support from my family right now, which is helping, but really hope things improve soon. It's hard enough looking after a baby at the best of times...

Oh well, better go to bed soon but hope your LO carries on behaving himself at bedtime and doing well in general... hugs :) xxx

Awe chick I hope things do get better very soon. It's hard enough being a new mummy let alone feeling shit as well.

Is it bedtime? Fanbloodytastic, I'm heading there shortly too although an early dream feed will mean an extra waking for me but hey ho.

Hope your boobs feel better tomorrow. xxxx

Sorry to jump all into your thread, but I have a quick thrush-related question...

5-day appointment yesterday, and MW said Cay's got thrush on his tongue, so we gotta go docs later and get the M-medicine (name escapes me...).
She asked if I had it in my boobs... I don't know, I'm not a doctor... She hasn't told me to get anything, so I'm gonna ask today if I should be having anything in case.
Gotta go see the community MW later as Cay's been spitting up his feeds all night, the last one especially was more vomity that spitty...

So, those of you whose babies have oral thrush... Has it made them sicky at all?

Thanks ladies xx
