Hi all, I graduated from my undergraduate degree in Psychology two years ago and was meant to be returning this September to do a MA Social Work. I have now had to defer my entry for a year so will be starting September 2011. I was just wondering if there was any other student mums out there... how do you juggle ur course and baby ? as well as coping financially ? and what help there is out there for student mums... any advice will be appreciated because I know that Sept 2011 will be here faster than I can ever imagine ! Thanks x

Ill be a student mum and I think there are at least 2 more of us on here :) Ill be going into my third year of a BA in september. Decided not to defer and just get it finished or Id never go back! Im not sure about funding for an MA. Im a single parent as well so am entitled to a fair amount. Deffinatly ask at your uni though. Theyre usually great and give you loads of advice (or at least mine did!) x

Hi :) I missed my degree exams in april because i was in labour! but i have them next week and am pooing my panties! my LO is 3 months old and it has been difficult enough just studying, never mind what it will be like in september! I am planning to go back in september for my honours year, I have a very supportive partner who is now working full time aswell as going to be at uni full time in his third year.

I want uni over and done with asap so i can concentrate on my wee family :) otherwise i would leave and never go back!

financially is quite difficult, as i was a student i wasnt allowed maternity allowance or anything like that, i applied for income support and they messed me about for 3 months before paying me! we will be living off bare minimum but at the end of the day, if we finish our courses asap and get decent enough jobs it will be much better in the years to come

x

I am a student but it's distant learning but my cousin was at medical school and she deferred her last year to look after her son but she finished and qualified in April this year!!

I'm sure there is a lot of help around out there for students as i know alot of unis round where i live are after mums to get into education and get a degree!!!

hiya

i had my daughter half way through my ba(hons) social work course, went back when she was 14 months, just heading into my final year and started TTC baby number 2 so should hopefully be pregnant before my course ends.

sorry i can help financially, i dont get any help as my hubby has a well paid job however i think with childcare they are very good.

in terms of juggling things i think routine is important, specially at night times when our daughter is sleeping i can crack on with uni work. we still have lots of quality times - days when timetable is short, early evenings etc

hope thats helped a bit and good luck with your course x

I was a student mum but it was too hard for me. I was busy with my master of clinical pedagogical science but with a baby who was up loads of times during the night and not a good sleeper during the day I couldn't continu after 6 months. ALso I had to do fieldwork for 6 months 5 days a week 9hours a day and I am against daycare so I had to quite. I might finish it later on but I dont think so because I won't have the option of doing the fieldwork for my thesis until my children are going to secondary school. Which will be 11 more years from now. So sorry not the most succesfull story, but I don't mind since I am a stay at home mum and already finished to bachelor degrees before my master so it is not that I need this to find a job later in live.
