Ok, just logged in at a net cafe - My laptop at home wont play videos so just been on You Tube to check some of the doppler videos to hear other peoples little ones.

Thing is, it doesn't sound much different to what we have been hearing on ours, which we thought was the placenta as sounded more swooshy than the 'Galloping Horses' sound people referred to.

Does anyone know a good video to look.listen to for reference?! I feel so blonde!! x

Try this site and its WAV's here Sounds a bit distorted but you can hear the heartbeat over the other noise- just!

12 weeks is still early to be detecting anything hearbeat wise tbh. Its far from clear this early. The placenta is a very easy to detect whooshing. LO is only about 5cm long and right down near your pubic bone still.

Try this You Tube clip You hear the heartbeat clearly for a few seconds.

This You TUbe clip is much clearer as to how the heartbeat sounds

Its a dun-dun-dun-dun and around 150 beats per minute. Defo not a whooshing sound. The placenta sounds slower.

I'd maybe wait a couple more weeks and try again.

Also be advised that they suggest some caution with using dopplers too much. No real study has been done into their use at home on a regular basis.

This blurb I found online elsewhere with regards to home use dopplers

There is no scientific research available to suggest that ultrasound is unsafe. In 2002, the British Medical Ultrasound Society issued a statement confirming that there has never been any evidence of harm resulting from the use of ultrasound dopplers in pregnancy. However it's important to remember that this research was based on the work of health professionals, who have been trained in its use under strict guidelines.

While there is no evidence as yet, that ultrasound is harmful in any way, there is also no research available to show the effects of a mother using a Doppler to listen to her baby two or three times a day throughout pregnancy. If you do decide to buy one, you may like to be cautious about how often you use it.

I'm not even using it a lot! I only checked when I got it have got it out once since!

Just wanted a clear sample and from the sample there, that is exactly what I was hearing

I used one daily or every couple of days for a few weeks with my son and he's absolutely fine :D

Only use it for a very short amount of time each time you use it. In a few weeks you'll feel babies first movements you won't feel the need to use it then if you were anything like me.

I haven't heard anything bad about it either

Don't let it worry you though babe, enjoy hearing your LO!!

I don't have one because I think I'll become obsessed! I want one though... :|

xx
