Thought I would do my birth story whilst I have chance ......

Went into the hospital for 9am on weds morning for planned induction due to me being older right bang on my due date! Apparently high risk of placenta breaking down after 40 weeks once you hit the 40 year mark!!

After 2 failed sweeps on the previous Friday and Monday where everything was still clamped shut I was praying for better news!! After being put on monitor ... I was finally examined and awaited hearing the good news!! But NO still clamped shut ......

Therefore pessary was inserted at 1050 .... And told that was it now .... Would be checked in 24 hours .... I was free to do what I wanted as long as stayed on hosp site!! So slightly disappointed accepted I was in for the long haul!

After lunch was served ... Me and hubby decided to go get coffee in Costa .... Stopped off at loo on way ... And OMG ... All of a sudden it felt like everything down below had swollen big time and the pain was horrendous!! Managed to walk in a fashion to Costa and found a lovely leather comfy chair .... What a relief!! So sat having coffee and tightenings were then coming thick and fast ..... Along with the pain!! Was trying to look composed as possible ... Didn't wanna scare the other customers!!

Was no break at all in between ... So decided to go back to ward! Sat on bed and just rocked back and forth ..... MW came in ... Explained what was happening .... She suggested I had paracetamol. These didn't touch it ... The pain and pressure were so intense and a real dragging feeling down below! Asked MW when I would be checked to see what was actually happening .... Her reply ... Oh when the 24 hours were up!! Well my face musta been a picture ... And my reply ... NO u will check me please! So after her suggesting I go on monitor for half hour it showed exactly what I was telling her ... Contraction after contraction with only a slight dip in between each ... She then agreed to check what was going on if I really wanted!, well yes .....

Anyhow she must of finished her shift because that's the last I saw of her ..... In strolls a new MW ... Checks me ..... Absolutely no progress at all ... Clamped shut!! Totally devastated OMG crushed! Was then given 2 codeine !! Tried to focus and get head round the fact... After a good sob!

Lay back on bed and heard to pops coming from tummy!! Slight dampening! Popped to loo ... Slight trickle and blood .... Popped to nurse station ...explained I thought waters had gone ... To be told oh just stick pad on and your know .... Then all 3 MWs that were there just looked at each other and raised their eyes ... Felt like they thought I was gonna be a right pain!

Returned to room .... By now it was 1730... Got myself changed nice new clean PJs on ... Sat back on bed .... Well waters gushed out .... Quite fitting with the local floods .... I was sat in a complete puddle! Hubby fetched MW .... Well from there all action stations !

Was wheeled into delivery room ... Gas and air available ... My bestest friend!! Wow whatever was or not happening I cld cope with now.

1815 another new midwife appeared .... I obviously kept scaring them off! Checked me ... 5cm ... That was it ... Progress!!

Contractions were just as intense and pressure building with each one .... Until my body just took over .... And pushed my beautiful daughter into the world at 1934 on 12.02.14 weighing 8lbs 6.5ozs ..... WOW ... Quick jab in my leg ... Felt some slight tugging and placenta was delivered. .... I had done it :-)

And here she is .....

Well done and congratulations!!

P.s. I can so relate to the waters flooding the bed! ;) like niagra falls ha! Xx

Well done you! These floods are horrid!! Did you manage a blueberry muffin? ;) x

Awww congrats hun, she's lovely! What a lovely name too. Josephine (Josie) is our choice for girls name :-)

Beautiful, well done you!! Sounds like my induction experience - no, you're not in labour, no, you're still not in labour, ahhh, yes, you're 9cm, quick, quick, quick. Sadly this was overnight and my husband missed it all due to hospital policy!

The fun now begins!! I'm 9 weeks in and can't remember what it feels like to have a full night's sleep!!!

I didn't .... Was really looking forward to one .... But the pain put stop to that lol x

A fair few staff were having to do longer shifts to cover staff that couldn't get in due to the flooding ! X

Yea I bet- I live in St. John's by the uni and it's our worst fear me going into labour as the only way across is holt fleet bridge or powick/new bridge both of which are just gridlock! We are mainly stranded this side of river!

Gutted you didn't get one- I'll make sure I have one for you when I'm next there

Great story and im so glad you proved the MW wrong!

Your little girl is gorgeous hun, well done.
Xx

Oh no ..... That's not so good!! Just watched the news .... Not much let up either ....! We luckily live the hosp side of the bridge ......

Will be thinking of you and watching for updates ..... Will ask round see if anyone has a boat I can send to rescue you x

congrats - she's lovely!

I know how you feel about telling the mw you waters had gone! with my first I was induced due to high bp - but after they put the pessary in they then decided L&D was too full and wouldn't persue the induction any more! but 2 hours later my waters just gushed - and I told them, their response was 'oh, that's great!!; in a really sarcastic tone!

MW visited today and I just happened to mention how I was made to feel! Turns out she is a Supervisor at the hosp and wasn't too happy ..... She going to pull my notes as she also isn't happy I was left with continuous contractions and pessary was left in ...... Apparently that could cause risk to baby!!! Grrrrrrr

Massive congrats! Can't believe how fast it went in the end... Although probs didn't feel like it. She is gorgeous!! X x
