When explained like that it makes more sense though I now feel guilty for being so alarmed by the original post 
. When Jess was a baby she would snuggle into my armpit, almost as if she was trying to get under it and as you say, making her world at that point smaller and less of a worry to her.
With Jess now being 21 months bed times are a pleasure. Every night without fail she gets bathed, then we have a bottle, then a bit of play but nothing too much and then I ask her if she wants to go to her cot with her rabbits. Its quite good, I let our cat sleep in her room and she thinks this is amazing. It sleeps on a sofa bed at the other end of the room and she goes in an says goodnight then goes over to the cot. When she stays at her grans its the same routine but without the cat. When she was wee we always thought a routine would pay off and it did.
