Legally are all of your maternity related appointments allowed to be taken without using your holiday?

Also can you 'claim back' time (such as my booking appointment and 12 week scan) which will obviously happen before I advise work?

Yes, you're legally entitled to have time off work without using holiday for your appointments. I don't know for sure, but I'd doubt you could claim it retrospectively - a lot of rights only kick in once you inform your employer, I believe.

I'm not sure about 'the law' as such but it should be written in the hr policy at work.

I was allowed time off for appointments and scans but I used flexi time where possible at the beginning. I wouldn't have claimed it back I don't think even if I was eligible to.

Towards the end, I would just take time out of the day to attend my appointments. I was allowed time for antenatal classes too.

Yes, you are entitled to take time off for anything maternity related, which includes dr's and mw visits as well as antenatal classes recommended by your medical team - which can be relaxation stuff not strictly medically related iykwim. All of this shouldnt affect your holiday entitlement.

I believe that is also covers the visits you made before you informed your boss as it was essential medical care to your condition (pregnancy) and therefore you can claim back your holidays.
HTH x

I dont think it's a legal requirement, more of a policy made by different companies. Im not an expert though lol x

yes legally they have to allow you time off for your appointments relating to pregnancy, including classes etc

As for claiming time back - this would be dependant on your employer...mine was pretty flexible and i never booked any holidays for doctors appointments/scans before telling then, they're fine with you just taking time off.

If you've got a HR policy have a read of it, if you get no answers ask - i guess they can only say no!!

Well I have two appointments before I will tell work and they are both at 11am so I have taken half a day's holiday.

I guess I could always ask about claiming the time back when I inform them after 12 weeks but I imagine it will be a no-no :eh:

I just thought I'd ask!

cheers ladies

For most it's only once they've been made aware of the situation and alot will ask to see letters/appointment cards etc... I wasn't planning on telling my boss but when i had the bleeding episode 2 weeks ago she saw me coming out the toilet in tears.... so i told her and she's been great.... so my booking appointment today was on the company :) which was good seeing as i didn't get to work until 12 and i finish at 4.30

I've put a holiday in for my 12wk scan as work dont know yet. I dont want to tell them until after then, I have plenty holidays so not bothered about claiming it back. I'll be able to take time for other appointments later on.

I'm not sure about claiming time back but they have to give you reasonable time off for anything pregnancy-related, including the time to travel to and from your appointments x
