8 week scan internal or external?

Hello ladies, just wondering if anyone has had a scan at around 8 weeks. I've booked in for an early scan as I'm stupidly anxious and I think it will help me relax. However on the place I booked it at it says drink 0.5l before. Then I mentioned to my friend who had several early scans due to issues and she had internal scans and the bladder needs to empty.

Any ideas? Xxx

In my first pregnancy i had two scans at 8+3 & 8+6. Both internal as nothing was since externally.


But this pregnancy i had a private (7+5) aswell as an emergency at epu (8+4) both externally and baby and hb was seen.

Drink loads. They will probs try ur belly 1st but as baby is teeny tiny, they may then try internally if they cant see a clear picture xxx

Oh I didn't even think. Mine is booked for Tuesday and I'll be 8+3 and just assumed it would be external x

I had an external one at 5 weeks then she told me to empty my bladder for an internal one as we couldnt find anything. Got my next scan on tues hoping my little bean is there with a HB xx

Definitely external by 8 weeks, unless very high bmi

My bmi was 23 and they still struggled to see anything in my first pregnancy at 8+3.
So thats not always the case

The hospitals in this area will always scan internally before 10 weeks xx

I had an external at 8+5 but couldn't see much so they did it internal as well x

At mine they're gonna try external so I've got to go with a full bladder but if they struggle they'll do internal! I'm quite big so I'm expecting internal ��

I'm also a little on the larger side so I think I'll do the same, it's easier to go with a fu bladder and pee if they have to do internal I guess. Xxx

Yea I think it depends on the policy of the hospital you attend I had one at my hospital's epu and midwife said they only do internal scans there. But if they have told you to attend with a full bladder then I'd say it'll most likely be external. Good luck for your scan hope it puts your mind at rest xx

I had external one when i put myself at 8+1, they saw hb clearly even tho they put me back to 7+4 (this was incorrect after and my dates were right). With my first pregnancy which sadly turned out to be a mmc i had external (8 weeks) but only yolk sac and no hb was seen & they then did internal but obviously nothing more was seen as it wasnt meant to be.
But generally external with full bladder and if they need to do internal they will just tell u to go to toilet and empty ur bladder x
