Hi all i am 4-5 weeks pregnant woke up this morning to some bleeding and cramps like a normal period. I have been to hospital and had another positive pregnancy test and a scan via a vaginal probe but although it showed a closed cervix, pregnancy sac and yolk there was no foetus :/ the lady who did the scan said she could see a bleed on the cervix and has asked me to come back in two weeks i feel confused. I have attached a picture off scan.

It's normal not to see the foetus at this stage. Often you won't see the foetus until nearly 6 weeks xx

That's true ... it's too early too see a fetal pole or heart beat ... just try not to worry easier said then done I know

Good luck ♥️

Courtz I feel for you. I went for a scan through the EPU at what I thought was about 4-5 weeks as I was unsure about dates. All I saw was an empty sac. No yolk sac, no foetal pole, no HB. I was told that it could be too early, but the woman was horrible and said it most likely would result in a miscarriage. I cried for hours. (It didn't, btw!)

When I got home I researched everything surrounding ultrasounds around this time of gestation. From what I remember off the top of my head -
Basically, 4-5 weeks is so so early, and to even see a yolk sac is impressive! Typically a foetal pole and heart beat aren't usually visible on an ultrasound until about 6 weeks. Sometimes a HB isn't found until closer to 7 weeks.

In two weeks, when you go back, you should be able to see the foetal pole and HB on the scan if you're already closer to 5 weeks at the moment. It could also be that your dates are a little off and you're actually closer to 4 weeks so you're a couple of days out of being able to see baby yet!

I spent the whole week before my rescan during that time panicking and worrying and crying, so I know it's scary, but try to keep calm. It's so early.

It really helped me to google some statistics and watch them go down day by day, and also look at scans and what is expected during what dates. It helped me rationalise a lot and understand why they were so mean about viability and miscarriages!

Fingers crossed for you in the next two weeks! x

Thanks a lot for great advice i hope the same will happen to me when I go back in two weeks I'm quite worried about the bleeding the grey area on the scan next to the sac to the left lady said was a bleed I'm still getting cramping but blood loss has stopped going to try and relax and not worry until next time but yup it is so hard x

I had a scan at 4-5 weeks due to worry of ectopic
I got there all excited she scanned me internally and saw nothing at all just a thickened womb I didn't even have a yolk sac
I went back a week later and saw a tiny pea shaped dot of the embryo type thing I don't think she could see a fetal pole then either I went back at around 7 weeks And saw a fetal pole and heart beat so don't lose hope I cried at the first appointment and the sonographer said the same most likely a miscarriage and I just had to wait abit longer and here I am with a healthy baby xz
