eeeeek she's here! It's taken me a while to find the time and the strength mentally to write this. The past two weeks have been really tough as I have been struggling with the baby blues.

Anyhow, here's how she arrived!

I was due on Thursday 11th April. I was late with my son so I figured I would be late with little Miss.

Saturday 6th April- I lost my plug. It was not how I expected, no blood whatsoever but unmistakable.

Sunday 7th April- 8am I get out of bed and feel a trickle. I wasn't sure at first if it was my waters but felt similar to how they did when they went in my first pregnancy. Carried on as normal but with a pad in. Bathed my son and when I was lent over his bed getting him dressed I felt three big gushes. Said to my OH they had definitely gone as I needed to hold a towel between my legs there was so much. I didn't yet want to go to the hospital to be checked because I was worried like last time I might be kept in if there was meconium (I didnt think there was as they were clear but I was worried about getting stuck in there!) so we preceded to hoover and clean the house in case baby was going to make an appearance!

1pm- went to make sure it was my waters that had gone. MW confirmed they had. I was also put on the trace- had some tightenings showing up but couldn't feel anything. I asked her to check to see if I was dilated at all because I wanted to know my starting point for what I thought was going to be an induction the following morning. She said I wasn't dilated at all due to being in labour but I was dilated just slightly due to having had a baby previously. I can't remember what this was called. I was booked in to be induced the following morning at 8am in case nothing happened before this.

I had period type pains for the rest of the day but nothing that made me think I was in labour. I was adamant it just wasn't going to happen naturally for me as this was exactly the way my labour went with Campbell- waters broke but then it seemed like my body didn't know what to do! Was feeling pretty disheartened as I knew I would be straight on the drip tomorrow. As we knew baby would be coming in the next 24 hours we spent the evening sorting out final baby bits and changing our bed in case my parents were to stay overnight- finally crawled into bed at midnight.

Monday 8th April- 12:30am Hubby is already sawing logs. I am laying WIIIIDE awake thinking about all the things to come. I am actually certain at this point I will wake up in the morning and go to hospital to have a baby. I am quite please to have one final nights full sleep before the sleepless nights with a newborn WHEN..... I get a contraction! Or so I think... then another! They don't hurt at all, just feel a little uncomfortable. I decide to see how often I am getting them and they are every 5 minutes.

I wake OH up and let him know I am getting tightenings. I say I will wake him up when they become painful so he can help me through them!

12:50am- PMSL I wake OH up. Ouch these hurt! hahaha. We decide to come downstairs to the lounge so I dont wake up Cam. I put my TENS machine on and sit on my ball. I am breathing through the contractions quite confidently. Yep I can do this! They remain every 3-4 minutes now lasting between 50 and 80 seconds each.

1:20am- I call the hospital. I explain I don't want to come in but that I am unsure when I should. Should I look out for anything? Midwife says to take it an hour at a time, that I will know when to come in and to trust my instinct. She didn't expect them to get much closer together and that I was doing well. One thing I really wanted in this pregnancy was to be able to labour at home for as long as possible as I was stuck in hospital for so long last time. I call my mom after this and let her know my intentions. She's now on standby to come over when I go to hospital.

I remain on my ball, breathing through my contractions with my TENS machine. Lots of pressure in my bum, feels like I need to poo but I cant. I had to keep reminding myself to relax my shoulders. It really did help. My contractions intensified more and more, I was finding it hard to breathe through them by 3:30am and was beginning to make more noise. I called the hospital to let them know I would be up shortly and got my parents over to watch Cam. Getting to the car was a struggle, I had two contractions before I could leave my front door and make it 30 feet to the car! Neighbour must have got a right sight!

4am- We arrive on the maternity ward. I am put on the trace as my waters ruptured the previous morning. Baby girl seems happy and I am literally watching my contractions come without breaks! One straight after the other... By this time I am sooooo uncomfortable. The pressure in my bum is at an all time high. Midwife in triage checks me and I am 5cm. I am a bit disappointed because I totally know I cannot do this without pain relief for another few hours but at least I am not going to be sent home!

4:45am- Another midwife comes to take me around to delivery. I have 4 contractions on the walk from room to room. Midwife says "I don't think this baby is going to wait long!" When we get in the room I overhear them talking about putting me back on the trace because apparently baby had a deceleration while I was contracting- this didnt happen in the end as it happened really quickly.

I am handing gas and air (omg I love this stuff) and the midwife asks me how quickly Cam came when I explain I went from 4cm-fully dilated in under an hour she looks quite panicked and starts to unwrap all her delivery equipment! lol. She asks me where I want to give birth which confuses me slightly!?!? Didn't think there was many options so I don't answer. I am still standing up, arm wrapped around Hubby's neck. The sound the g&a makes is quite rhythmic and I find myself swaying to it which helps me concentrate on something other than the pain. Hubby has no choice but to move with me. We quite literally danced the pain away. He is also helping by hitting the boost button on my TENS machine each time one comes.

MW tells me to trust my body and to let her know when baby is coming. After about 6 contractions I can feel she is pretty imminent. I say "this is it! baby's coming!" and hop onto the bed on my knees. I am leaning over the back of the bed. The midwife was brilliant. She told me she wants to get this baby out without any tears and that I need to listen to every word. I can feel every move the baby makes. It feels like last time, like I am going to do the worlds biggest poo! I am listening to the MW and breathe the babies head out. It comes so slowly and smoothly it feels as though its in slow motion although it only takes one contraction. That ring of fire.... OMG. I forgot about that! hahaha. Once her head is born it feels like a lifetime to the next contraction but when it comes I bear down and push the rest of her out. She comes out below me onto the bed and I pull her up and onto my chest! It was simply magical!!!! I just get to hold her tight and take her all in! OH is crying and I am just so in awe. All I kept saying was how much she looks like me and how much hair she has and also how proud I was of what just took place.

so.... 5:15am- Lexi Marie was born weighing 8lbs 1oz. No tears... so no stitches, on g&a only. So incredible. Shes amazing!

MW asked what I wanted too do in 3rd stage. I said I would like to wait for cord to stop pulsing before it was cut and she was happy to oblige. She suggested that as that generally take 10-15 minutes to happen that I should deliver the placenta naturally which I was happy with. So Lexi laid on my chest SCREAMING for the next 35 minutes because she wanted to feed but her cord wasn't long enough to get her to the boob. I didn't mind, I was happy to hold her. After half an hour I pushed out my placenta with a gentle guide from the MW. The cord was then clamped and OH cut Lexi free! YAY!

We were not admitted to the post natal ward as I was offered an early discharge so we got to stay in a private room until we went home. We didnt stay for Lexi to see the pediatricians because we were able to take her back the next day. So after having a few hours to sleep, cuddle, coo and shower we left for home! Oh and my parents brought Cam to the hospital to meet his baby sister... he wasnt really bothered by her however. lol We were home by 11am! hehehe. Cant believe I had a baby and was home all before lunch time. Amazing experience.

So.... here she is, my gorgeous girlie.

I read the frst half of your story this morning, and then laptop ran out of power and shutdown!!! I have only just read the other half (what a suspense!) .

Wow , I'm a hormonal preg lady so I have been crying now, what a perfect birth - well done you, loved how you could bring her up from under you straightaway yourself first before any midwife - amazing...

She looks just like Cam and is gorgous, with loads of hair!!!
