1st Anti natal class what to expect?

not sure. is that the same as parent-craft? i'v been to them they just talked about signs of labour n pain relief. i knew most of it neway really.

Yes, on the whole parent craft classes and antenatal are the same thing. I'm doing my antenatal classes with the NCT, I start on the 6th June so can't advise as to what you might expect but I know they cover pain relief, what birthing is all about, support from partners etc, breastfeeding, they answer any questions you might have about different aspects of birthing, from going into hospital to c-sections and homebirthing, breathing techniques are covered and so forth. I'm sure you will be just fine. I'm looking forward to mine too.

Not done them so can't say, but wanted to just send a hug and say I hope you have a lovely time soexcited

Thanks im a bit nervous to be honest. I just have visions of us all sitting around in a circle saying' my name is .......' etc and i really dont want that.

Its a busy day for me today got hospital appointment again (im diabetic) and a growth scan, baby was 5 pound 11 two weeks ago, i think im having a monster.

Well you'll be in good company I'm sure, lots of other expectant mummys, and you'll get to ask questions, so all good things there :) I do hope the appointment goes well too, and I'm sure your LO will be an angel not a monster

I hope your AN class goes well and your other appointments today too. :)

5lb 11oz isn't too big for 35 weeks is it?

Im not going to my antenatal this time, i remember everything about it all last time and as for the birth, well il never forgot the last one.
am considering going to the class about breathing as i want to try as natutral a birth as possible.

What do you guys think? do you think i should go to them all?

PLease tell me you dont have to sit in a circle and tell everyone your name, im too  to do that....

Hope it went well honey xx

How did it go? I hope you didn't have to do the "hello, my name is....." school getting to know you thing either. I'd be mortified doing that now.

Do they not teach breathing techniques at ante-natal classes?
I think mums should go to whichever classes they feel will help prepare them, we personally aren't attending ante-natal classes, not liked what I've heard about them in this area, but it's a personal choice for every new parent which class they choose, it's just great there's so much choice :)
I, well we, have been practising breathing and relaxation techniques for a couple of months now, through hypnobirthing classes and one to one sessions. Breathing correctly is so important during labour, not only does it calm mum and LO, it oxygenates your uterus muscles and layers, and sends vital oxygenated blood to LO, all aiding optimum uterus contractions, for a more comfortable birth.

Hiya everyone, well it went really well, there was about 11 couples and yes we had to do the 'my name is .... i work as...' it wasnt so bad. We talked about drugs, coping with pain, the stages of labour. We watched a really old video of a birth all the men were going 'thats horrible'.

I'm not going to look forward to that 1st "my name is" thing then...mind you there are only 7 in my group so it might not be as bad as a larger class?? Glad it went well though...and typical men to say it's gross, they are part of the process too, thank god they don't have to deliver babies we'd never hear the end of it

it is weird how focused men are on the birth bit of being pregnant isn't it. My DH has been amazed there is so much more to being pregnant than giving birth. He keeps on saying... oohhh I didn't realise you wouldn't be able to do XYZ, or have ABC pain/ problems etc...

Glad the class went OK. I am the same, I hate meeting new people and doing the whats your name and where do you come from bit! Mine start on 14th June :D

Thanks for saying what happened at the class. I have forgotten how they went because my last AN classes were 18 years ago! :)

We are booked in for a whole day parentcraft class with the hospital. Not sure what they will spend the whole day talking about though! :) OH really wants to go, I'm not so bothered, but he said he wants to know "everything". LOL

Yes they do teach about breathing but that will be the only class i attend this time around! I can remeber how to swaddle, bath, feed, change the nappies tec lol, i was only there a few years ago lol :D
