I have my first antenatel class tonight... Can anyone tell me what to expect? What do they usually go through on first night? Thanks girls xxx

If it's the NHS one, it will probably be Labour, how to recognise it etc and pain relief.

Not sure if it's the NCT ones as I haven;t had mine yet :)

I believe it's also dependant on your area so I could be wrong.

My first NHS one was amazing they out lined the next 5 weeks

Week 1- car safety/ changing relationships/ real nappies/ communicating with your baby

Week 2 & 3 - midwife discussing child birth and pain options

Week 4 - someone is coming in to go through baby first aid

Week 5 - more on life with baby

Last night was brilliant we were all created with offers of tea/ coffee/ water and cake- we watched a 30 min video on communicating with baby and were given goody bags- each a canvas bag with a teddy, keyring with supermarket coin fob, plastic pen, magazine bump to baby, leaflets etc
They also passed around real nappies and had a small talk on them and told us what the children's centre in the area could offer us and talked about the important of a proper fitting car seat & how our relationships may change - baby blues what warning signs to look out for etc.....

I m really glad that I didn't pay for the NCT ones now as my classes seem pretty amazing - apparently where i live the children's centre is run by the charity banardos and they run the classes (as well as baby massage/ play groups/ drop in clinics etc) which apparently means they have more funding- which might explain the goody bags and focus on baby communication/ relationships/ first aid etc..... Unless this is all standard then I am really impressed with NHS

hope you have an amazing class like me xxxx

Fur Baby your's sound amazing!!!

Wonder why mine haven;t covered that!!! maybe I will ring them!

It's NHS. Gosh Furbaby I hope I experience that tonight! I have to go it alone though, OH is sick in bed with the flu! boo!

I did mine alone :) OH was working and I thought it was fine, and also what I found was because I have spent so much time on here reading peoples experiances I was able to answer the questions easier :) which made me look like a smarty pants which was very cool :)

I have no idea if this is standard for NHS classes but it was really good :) Having done a ridiculous amount of research of real nappies I knew more than the lady at group- so I got to sound all smarty pants lol!

I'd say it was really good but no one really socialised I don't know if some of the mummies where just shy or not interested in making friends but most people kept to themselves or partners :( I was hoping to make some new mummy friends!!!
