16dpo, BFN and Brown spotting

Hi ladies
I had a positive ovulation test on January 7th, DTD plenty around that time! My cycle is generally between 32-35 days. I am currently 16dpo and day 37 of my cycle.

Ive had my usual pre AF symptoms this month such as sore boobs on and off, acne breakout around cycle day 30. However what has been different is the past week i have had mild AF cramps come and go (I've been getting them for 30 mins then nothing for 24 hours?), i normally only get cramps the day before/day of. Ive been getting lower back ache, been pretty tired and have felt fairly odd - sort of spaced out the last 2 days.

I did a HPT this morning and.... BFN!!!
I really thought this was going to be our month. Soon after i took the test i had some brown/mucousy discharge when i wiped (sorry tmi). I guessed that this meant AF was starting so put a tampon in and went about my day but a couple of hours later i checked and no more brown but sort of creamy mucous CM (again sorry tmi).

I know I'm most likely out this month but doing my monthly clutching at straws routine and hoping/wondering if anyone out there had this and gone on to have a BFP???

I don't think it's unheard of for this to lead onto a bfp.. but for me it's always been followed by af anywhere from 1-3 days later after any brown or pink.
The last cycle I had pink and brown cm for 4 days before full flow. But the cycle before was just full flow with no warning.
I think our bodies like to mess with us.

Hopefully a bfp is a few days away for you xx

Thanks for your reply Millie. I definitely agree about our bodies messing with us! Still the tiniest bit of brown mucous when I wipe, if I wasn't checking then I wouldnt even know it's there. A little bit of backache but no cramps at all now. I'm fairly prepared for the fact af is probably going to appear in the next day or so. My plan at the moment is keep busy and if no af by Saturday to test again. I just wish af would hurry up if she's coming so I can get ready to do all this again next month x
