Hey ladies.

Ivy has luckily always been a good sleeper.....a few months ago we dropped the morning nap and brought arvo nap forward as she was messing about in her cot for almost 2 hrs at bedtime. Worked a treat and since then would nap from 1.00 to 3.00 , bed at 7.00/7.30 then sleeping through til 7.30am.

A week ago the messing about started again..... chatting, sitting, standing and throwing her soft toys out then getting upset at the empty cot. On the video monitor we can see that she is trying to settle but can't seem to and starts to play up. She does this for an hour before going to sleep and we go in to put her comforter back in the cot when she cries. She is also waking earlier....6.00 am today.... a shock to my system and am knackered as 11 weeks preggas.

So, the only solution I can think of is to reduce her 2 hour nap (gutted to loose some of my downtime)! Cut it by 30 mins today and no change tonight.....aaagghhhh.

Any advice, thoughts or similar experiences?

Thanks

Xxx

My son is also 16 months and we are having the exact problem.
No morning naps anymore and we are lucky if he has a hour in the afternoon!
He used to have 2 hours in a morn and afternoon and go straight Down to sleep at 7.30/8ish no problems.
He will happily go in the cot at night but still wide awake for 1-2 hours after. Luckily he is happy to be left but just messes around chatting away ect lol.
So no real advice. I'm wondering if it's a age thibg maybe?
Really not what I expected as he's slept fab for months and I'm about to have my 2nd any day now lol.
Let's hope it ends soon

I just think they go through a stage of not wanting to settle. I personally would just ride it out don't make any changes to the length of the nap and see if they return to the sleeping pattern before xx

No advice hun, just wanted to say huge congratulations on no 2!!!!! X

I'd still keep her nap the same length of time, but move it to earlier. From about that age my eldest would be up between 6am and 7am, nap around 11am-noon and would be up by 2pm. I stopped letting him sleep past 2pm other wise he wouldnt settle when going to bed at 7pm. The other thing you could do is put here's to bed a little later to see if that helps. I've always been quite strict only the whole 7pm bedtime cos until recently I was working full time and LO had to be up early so I wanted to make sure he got him sleep. But even then some nights he's fast asleep by five past and others hes still awake and chatting away at nearly 8pm. Light nights and mornings will probably be effecting her too

I'd just ride it out, try having an earlier nap and see how it goes.

Emma is 16 months old too. We've just dropped the morning nap this week. But I've pulled the afternoon nap forward. So lunch at 11, bed at 11:30 and she's been sleeping till 2ish. She is getting grumpy earlier in the evening though.

Thanks for all the replies.....problem with moving her nap forward is that I'm not sure she will sleep much earlier than 1.00. I will try though. Couldn't get her down before 1.15 today as we had friends over and she was all hyped up. Find sleeping bang on lunchtime really anti social too but I'll just have to get over that.

She didn't wake as early this morning....so that was good. Will see how tonight goes and keep you informed of any progress. :-). Xx

1-3 is a late and long nap here for my nearly 16 month old! He usually goes down about 11-12.30 then lunch he sometimes has a 15 min chill time in afternoon on the bean bag at nursery and that see's him through to 7ish

I can't get Ivy to nap before 1.00 unless she's in the car or woke really early.

Past 2 days we had success with cutting her nap to 1 hour....she then settled fine and slept 12 hours at night.....13 hrs in total is about right I've read.

She had an extra 15/20 mins today and that was enough to stop her settling at bed time...so its gonna have to be a strict hour from now on.

Xx
