It seems to be one worry after another!

Dylans got really bad nappy rash, we've been using metanium for the last week but its just continuing to get worse. its red raw and really spotty and blotchy. its not just his bum though its all between his legs, and this morning i noticed its come up bright red just above his willy. i always make sure its pointing down when putting his nappy on so that area doesnt even get wet i dont understand it. It looks painfull and hes been crying a lot more than usual today so i think its definately irritating him. We only ever use cotton wool to clean him. i'e started using sudacrem again now because the metaniums not even touched it.
Is this normal?
Im just going to give him a bath to see if it might settle it down. we're still only using warm water to bathe him so theres nothing in there that should irritate him.

Can anyone advise me what to do? seeing the HV monday anyway but its horrible seeing him looking so sore anduncomfortable :(

Thank you

I would just keep his nappy off as much as possible hun - fresh air is the best cure.

I personally would go back to the sudocreme but make sure it's rubbed in as if its not it can stop the nappy from absorbing which will just make the rash worse.

Yes lots of Nappy off time and give vaseline a try. Maia had a sore bum that wouldnt go for about 2 weeks, metanium didn't touch it and neither did sudocreme I put vaseline on overnight and the next morning it had gone completely.

It might be thrush, take him to your gp get some cream prescribed, also check his mouth to look for a white coatig that isnt milk. It is really common in little babies

I agree, it sounds a lot like thrush.you need an anti fungal cream, ordinary barrier creams won't help or may make it worse

ok makes sense actually, i've had no pain breast feeding since just a couple of days after Dylan was born and then yesterday my boobs and nipples got seriously sore again and have been the same since.
Would this ring true for thrush? and would he get it in both places?
Is it the same thrush as women get cos thats awfull  bless him.

Can the HV prescribe it, im seeing her Monday anyway or do i need to take him to the docs? and is there anything i can do to help him before then? should i stop the sudacrem do you think? and will neppy off time help with this
Sorry for loads of questions xx

if you have a burning type pain that carries on after feeding, itchy feeling, shiny appearance then it could be thriush. If it is you both need to be treated. Your HV can prescribe treatment but make sure you get a cream for your nipples, and his bum, and an oral solution for his mouth.

Ryan got this and when we went to the doctors he took a quick look and said straight away it was thrush and it was really common to get it in warmth (was the end of summer) and wet nappies + trousers + warm weather etc etc. We got a cream for it, was called dactacort (sp?) and it cleared it up really quickly. He did say that barrier creams just make the situation worse so I'd pop and get him some proper stuff and aim for some out-of-trousers time if your house is warm enough, or unpopper the vest or something :)

I cant comment on the thrush (as luckily none of mine have had it) but I will say that Sudocrem is a barrier cream, it wont help nappy rash but can help prevent it! (though I hate the stuff personally)
I got some Bepanthen for Lola (though not needed to use it yet) as lots of people tell me its brilliant for nappy rash! It also has a barrier quality too so you can use it to prevent but it isn't as thick as Sudocrem!

But the best best thing for nappy rash is nappy off time! :D

Sorry to hear hun. I would try Bepanthen. Miran started developing red and spotty bum and we applied Bepanthen for about 4 days and it seems to have disappeared. You can buy it anywhere. Hope it helps. x

Hopefully you're sorted now

Your pain in your boobs sounds like mine when me and Sydnee had thrush. I ended up with three lots of stuff, had a rummage through the cabinet but can only find her oral stuff, which was NYSTATIN ORAL SUSPENSION. It was yellow banana stuff that I had to rub on her tongue for as long as I could as it only works on contact. The second day of treatment as worse than before we saw the doctor, I assume as it reacted? within 4 days it'd all but gone.

try keping it dry and aierd out as much as you can, talk may help with this
