yet another question about maternity alllowance?????

Ok so i finally got everything sent off for my maternity allowance and just have to wait i guess. I have put my maternity allowance to start from the 31st of october ...............my question is , do i tell my boss in writing thats the day i plan to finish, or do i have to wait for the maternity allowance people to get back to me.
I was told there was a bit of a back log with all the maternity allowance at the moement so therfor im just a bit unsure as to wether they will have it ready by the time im due to leave or do i leave even if they havnt sorted it out???

so confusing if anyone can shed some light i would be very greatful

Telling your employer that you want to take maternity leave

Tell your employer at least 15 weeks before the beginning of the week your baby's due. If this isn't possible (eg because you didn't realise you were pregnant), tell them as soon as possible. You need to say:

* you're pregnant
* when the baby's due
* when you want to start your maternity leave (you can change the date later, if you give 28 days' notice)

So you'll have to give 28 days notice.
