I had a trans vaginal scan yesterday and was told my cervix is short (23 mm). The consultant did not give me any advice but was actually asking me what I wanted her to do. Has anyone had any experience with a short cervix? I would love some advice, please.

No experience of this but how far are you?

I Think they can put a stitch in your cervix (clercage) just as a precaution incase you were to go into early labour.

Do they know why you have this?

I'm 14 weeks pregnant. I've had two LLETZ procedures to remove cancer cells from my cervix.

Oh i see, well i'm glad they are checking and have found this for you :hugs:

I think the stitches are VERY effective then they just remove it close to the end. hope someone else can give you some advice :hugs:

xx

hi ive had same procedure as you for cervical cancer, if they have measured it and not said they need to stitch it then youll be fine, if your worried then ask them for a stitch.

Im 34 weeks and ive been fine just was told am at risk of prem labour as cervix is shorter than normal.

Hey hun Ive had it done twice too. I get scans every 2 weeks to check if its shortening. I know that anything under 25mm they usually put a stitch in (they are usually really affective) and some women be ordered to strict bed rest. Luckily mine is a good length, but since my 18 week scan it has shorten by 1cm, although its still 3.9cm, so tbh Id be over with them demanding they put in a stitch, as if it gets to 1.5cm some women be hospitalised and under complete bed rest. Im sorry if im worrying you, I dont mean to, and Im sure that the hospital will be keeping a close eye on you, but I think for youre own piece of mind you would feel better with the stitch. Best of luck chick xxx

Thanks for your responses. The consultant mentioned stitching but is not really advising me. When I asked her what she thought I should do she said she honestly didn't know and as she's not god she cant say what's going to happen. It's her attitude that worries especially when she said "if it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen" in reference to a miscarriage. I'm thinking that I should get a second opinion

Hi hun,

My friend went into labour at 22 weeks as this was missed for her. She was told that a stitch could have prevented it from happening. I don't want to worry you either, but would recommend a second opinion just incase.

When she gets pregnant again she will need the stitch and to rest from 12 weeks on.

Thanks, Olive, will definitely get a second opinion

Omg Hun her attitude is shocking she may not be god but she should be an expert in her field!!! I would put a complaint in, she should offer reassurance and solutions not stress!!! X x

Let us know how you get on hun. xxx

Completely agree with this. Her attitude is dreadful!! Shes saying 'What will be, will be' when she could put a stitch in and prevent early labour. Id register with another consultant chick. Let us know how you get on xxx

Omg what a disgusting response to your concerns!! defo get a second opinion and complain about that woman!!!
ive had the same treatment but luckily my cervix was 37 at 20w scan.. youll need scanning every 2 weeks to check on ur length and possibly a stitch.. i cant believe that woman said that!!!
