I think Lewis is more for a last name am I right? Plus I have some french heritage and his father lived in italy for years so would Louis not be more appropriate?
If you want it pronounced Lewis I'd spell it Lewis. When I call kids names at work (I work at a hospital) the amount if times I've had to ask is it Loo-ee or Lewis when it's spelt Louis, it's not good and the parents get really peeved as I always get it wrong. We've started writing on the front if their notes "pronounced Lewis" or "pronounced Loo-ee" to stop them getting offended x
My partner is Lewis, but one of my sisters friends has a son who is called Louis so I like them both! Louis is said looee, isn't it? Louis sometimes gets called Lewis by teachers if they read his name wrong on the register though. x
I also agree that they're pronounced differently - though my cousin's little boy is called Louis pronounced Lewis (drives me a little bit mad!). Though to be honest, it's completely up to you which spelling you prefer!
If you're going to pronounce the 'S' then i'd spell it Lewis. Louis is usually pronounced without the 'S'. My Nephew who is due in November will be called Louie to avoid any confusion x
