... Louis or Lewis?

I think Lewis is more for a last name am I right? Plus I have some french heritage and his father lived in italy for years so would Louis not be more appropriate?

I prefer Louis...agree that Lewis is more of a surname type spelling. Love the name:)

But aren't they pronounced differently? Ie: louis is like looey (as in Louis Walsh) and Lewis is pronounced how it looks iykwim??

Personally I prefer Lewis but that's just me :)

^wss my best friend has a Lewis and our other friend has a Louis (as in Louis Walsh)....I thought they were different names? Xx

Sent from my nearly buggared iPhone!!

If you want it pronounced Lewis I'd spell it Lewis. When I call kids names at work (I work at a hospital) the amount if times I've had to ask is it Loo-ee or Lewis when it's spelt Louis, it's not good and the parents get really peeved as I always get it wrong. We've started writing on the front if their notes "pronounced Lewis" or "pronounced Loo-ee" to stop them getting offended x

I read that the same as princess and smith - if i saw Louis i'd pronounce it Lou-ee - as in Louis Walsh. So maybe Lewis would be a safer bet.

xxx

My partner is Lewis, but one of my sisters friends has a son who is called Louis so I like them both! Louis is said looee, isn't it? Louis sometimes gets called Lewis by teachers if they read his name wrong on the register though. x

I agree with the others - both are pronounced differently.

I love the name lewis for a baby boy. Cant use it myself as my cuz is called Lewis.

Not too keen on Louis.

:)

I also agree that they're pronounced differently - though my cousin's little boy is called Louis pronounced Lewis (drives me a little bit mad!). Though to be honest, it's completely up to you which spelling you prefer!

If you're going to pronounce the 'S' then i'd spell it Lewis. Louis is usually pronounced without the 'S'. My Nephew who is due in November will be called Louie to avoid any confusion :) x

I know a boy called Lewis who spells it Louis! I prefer the spelling Lewis though!

Thanks alot guys. Definitely gonna spell it Lewis but the nickname Lewee will definitely appear, I'd give it about 6hrs :)

Lovely name Hun, my friends baby was called Lewis, they also had a dillion, and they chose both as they were apparently welsh, (parents both welsh)

Yeah I agree my friends son is Louis spelt Luis x
