Hi All,

Despite using infacol for a couple of weeks and burping Ollie and getting a couple of burps, he still looks uncomfy after a feed. He keeps bringing his legs up and grizzling. Everyone says thats a sign of wind still. No matter how long i go on for i dont get anymore and he ends up being sick. We've tried more positions than the Karma Sutra!!

Now im using SMA gold at the moment and considered changing milk to see if that helps? Has anyone else done this and did it help? Which brand did you change from and to?

Thanks all,

Claire x

C&G Comfort, its thicker so as to ensure that there are fewer air bubbles can get into it, and therefore into LO.

SMA do a version, as do Aptimil. Google it hun and see what you think.

We tried changing from SMA gold to C&G comfort and it was a total disaster - spent best part of a week changing 10 explosively dirty nappies a day until we changed back. Called the C&G helpline and apparently nappies like that are normal on it! She was completely uncomfortable and it didn't smell nice either so we changed back to SMA gold. I know several folk on here use it and like it though.

We also tried SMA staydown but it needs to be mixed at a very cool temperature or else it's as thick as whipped cream as it thickens on contact with heat.

Lots of people I know use Aptamil (the normal one) and think it's great but we never bothered to change again - her constant sickness and discomfort turned out to be reflux so changing milk probably wouldn't have helped her much anyway.

 for you and Ollie

we used C&G comfort and it helped no end  he was so windy after a feed when he was on the normal stuff x

If you try a comfort milk expect some HORENDOUS nappys!! Ewwwwwwww my god :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: Iv never seen anythign like it in my life!!!

But it worked a treat! :p

LOL I just re-read my post and I mean the milk didn't smell nice :rotfl: Not that the nappies were great, mind

we were first using c&g comfort but it wasn't right for him at all we changed to heinz nurture for sensetive tummies its great especially when he had colic. i'd highly reccomend it. it made him so much more settled after feeding and he sleeps better too.

We changed from SMA GOld to Comfort as well after constipation and reflux issues. It suited him really well but the eggy nappies did take some getting used to :puke:

I'd change to Colief over Infacol for a bottle fed baby as I understand its more effective. You can get it on prescription I think as its about £10 a bottle.

I think its trial and error with formula also tbh. What suits one doesn't another.

Thanks everyone. Why are the nappies so horrendous on the comfort stuff? He's not constipated or anything.. does that make a difference as to whether to change?

Apparently they're horrendous because the ingredients are more easily digestible and pass through easier. Though I would have thought that made for less dirty nappies than more  I was totally unprepared for how horrible they were though... think rumble rumble FTHHHHHHHHHH :puke:

Might be worth just trying a different brand of milk rather than a whole new type of milk (i.e. another stage 1 milk rather than a comfort milk) if you know what I mean? If it doesn't work you can always switch back.

I wouldn't go up a thickness in milk until you've tried other formula's in all honesty cos what will you go up to if he gets really really hungry in a month or so? I much prefer aptamil over SMA - it seems to really settle our little man when he is really collicky and tired where as SMA made him more colicky and he found it really hard to bring up wind - he brings up wind lovely on the few aptamil bottles he's had  xxx oh n if you not already tried it - Gripe water is the mutz nutz - it was the only thing that worked with my eldest

I think i may try a dfferent brand of normal milk first. Aptamil seems a popular choice and see how we get on.. I will also try the old gripewater to see if that helps. The infacol has helped get a burp or two but he still seems unsettled. Is there anything i should be prepared for if i switch brands?

I used cow and gate with both my children with no problems and that has come up as a popular choice before on here for polls.

I highly recommend it.

I changed from Sma gold (kept giving her constipation) to Aptamil and its great!
Also changed bottle to Dr Browns for less colic.

We used infacol and C&G comfort. Isaac's poo's were nasty and I rang the helpline too who told me it was normal so we stuck with it and it really stopped the wind. I'd rather horrible nappies than a windy crying baby  Its the lesser of 2 evils :D

Was that standard aptamil or the comfort type?

Just normal type hun, we found that sma gold just did not agree with her for many things.
Also try changing your teats/bottle maybe? The TT were filling her with wind but the Dr Browns are much much better for her.
Every bubs is different and its a bit trial and error methinks

The Cow & Gate Comfort milk is thicker but its not a hungrier baby milk so shouldnt really make much difference in that way!
I changed from Cow&Gate premium to Comfort and its been a total blessing! The nappies arent that bad! All nappies stink lol!
Oh and unless its changed from when I had my other children, babies have to be one month old before you can give them Gripe water! But it was the only thing that helped my other children!!
