Hello

Tom has started to be really sick, during and after each feed. He continues to be sick right up until his next feed is due. I was using cow & gate and have moved to sma gold which is slightly better but still not right.

I have spoken to the HV who says that as long as he is putting on weight there is nothing to worry about. He is bringing up around half his bottle but he is still gaining weight, if I try to give him less milk he screams for more.

The poor little thing hates being sick

What else can I do??

Nikki

does he seem to be in pain while having his milk? i'm no expert at all but sounds a little like reflux although tends to be associated with a lot of pain during a feed and immediate vomiting after a feed. its encouraging he is putting on weight though, i think some babies tend to be more sicky than others so it could be your HV is right.

Thanks for your reply rusks.

No, he is not in any pain whilst feeding. I might understand him being a sicky baby if he had been like it right from the start but it's only been this bad in the last few weeks.

I've found that HVs can be as much use as a choc teapot sometimes so I'd definately have a word with your GP just to make sure all is ok. I've also had the 'as long as he's putting on weight' comment time and time again, it really annoys me especially when you know something isn't right.

iv heard there is one called "stay-down" or something for upset tummies? sorry i dont kno what brand i dont use formulas!
good luck, hope u find something that works x

hun Ive had oran being a VERY sicky baby from about 2 - 2.5 months, about half his daily feeds were brought back, at least 6 clothes changes a day (for him and me) and I always got, ''he is fine, he is puttin gon weight so its ok'' and ''probably reflux but he is in no pain so its fine'' etc etc then last monght my SIL remembered (better late than never  ) that her LO was prescribed Infant gaviscon and its stopped him being sick so of I trotted to the GP and he sais same old putting on weight etc etc, should grow out of it so I said ''look, I was told when he was on sold it would reduce dramatically, he has been on solids for 6 weeks and its the same content, now its just orange so can I try some infant gaviscon someone has told me about'' he said it prob wouldnt work as usually only if the bubs is in pain, but he gave me a weeks worth to try and my little guy is hardly EVER sick. he does do a bit of spit up after his feeds especially if he is moved to quickly after eating, but now I dont have to take tons of spare clothes out with me, and once he has finished feeding I can take the bib off instead of him perm having one on lol so I would recommend it 100%. (bare in mind though oran had been doing this for about 3 months when it was prescribed AND I had to ask for it, it was never offered). Its just a powder you put in the milk by the way so they dont even know.

Thanks everyone. He seems to be getting better with the SMA gold so I will try that for a few days, if it doesn't get better I'll book an appt with the GP and ask about that infant gaviscon, i've heard other people say how much it has helped their LO's too.

Nikki xx
