Can you tell I'm paranoid? My baby was a little suprise, and for some reason I seem to spend 90% of the time convinced that I'm not going to meet her, that something's going to go awfully wrong....I had quite a few scares and bleeds throughout and *touch wood* baby's been fine....but this new quietness in her/change in habits has got me worrying the past couple of days.

Usually I have a quite established routine, but the past couple of days I've been lazy due to the heat....not getting up until late etc etc, so could baby have changed her routine as I've changed mine? Normally I'm up early doing animals etc, sitting down at 12.30 with hubby for his lunch, then she'd kick, kick, kick....afternoon would be spent doing housework then I'd sit with OH when he came home at 5pm with a cup of tea, and again, kick, kick, kick....I'd have other movements etc throughout the day but I could guarantee I'd get those movements. Since it became hot OH's been doing the animals before work, I've been getting up late, doing very little throughout the day and geting my jobs done in the evenings....I feel the odd little kick, but not as per.

I had a few kicks about 9am, but nothing since, though to be fair baby was up doing aerobics on the bladder ball until about 5am, so maybe that's why? or could it be that I don't feel as much/as strongly as she's facing my spine?

When would you begin to worry with movements? What kind of timescale? I'm at the midwife in the morning and I think I'll speak to her as this constant state of worry is really stressing me out :?

Sit in a very quiet room, drink a pint of iced water, or eat a big bowl of ice cream etc. close your eyes and focus on your tummy.

If after a while there is still no or very little movements I'd call your MW and ask her to check on you, don't wait till tomorrow, she should be able to reassure you.

It probably is nothing to worry about but like urchin said get somewhere quiet and drink something really cold or suck on an ice lolly as this will probably wake baby up. They say that you should feel at least 10 kicks per day but if there's a huge change in movements then you really should get checked out. To be honest with you my baby has been pretty quiet this past week and i've been putting it down to lack of room for one as due anyday now but i've also put it down to the weather being really warm. I get my hubby to rub lotion ect on my bump if I havent felt baby move as this really gets baby moving even if it is for just 5 mins until he/she settles down again. The other thing you can do if you've got one is listen to babys hb on a fetal monitor but like I say this is only if you've got one. I havent had to use mine yet as baby soon moves as said above if I get hubby to massage but they are very reasuring.

My LO had a change of movements about your stage. He was always regular before that, a Good Morning kick, maybe a few at work, then a big hello wriggle round when OH got home, and a good night kick too.

Our 4d scan at 27 weeks showed him facing my spine. He's now facing forwards and the movements have increased again and have no routine whatsoever!

I think the recommendation is about 10 or movements a day. I would recommend what Urchin has said, ice cold water.

im so glad someone has posted about this and your at the exactly the same stage as me!!!

over the past few days i have been worrying myself up to 90 as i havent had as much movement from our little girl! on tuesday i was so worried that when she did move i would sit and think ok did i imagine that cos i wanted to feel it so much!

i had a scan yesterday due to low lying placenta and she was totally fine and today the movements have increased again so im putting it down to the position she is lying or the fact she takes after me and could be quite lazy!

if you are really worried hun dont sit and stress, wont do you any good, give your mw a call and explain your worried etc and want to be checked!

in the mean time id try what urchin suggested and see if that gets her moving about for you! it could be that she is kicking your placenta or something so cant feel it so much?

i know our little girl loves orange juice, always gets her moving about

Hey hun! I'd go for cold water or the doppler idea!!

If bubs still isn't very active after that, just call your MW and she'll be able to tell you where you stand with what to do next.

Hope she starts kicking away! She might be really sleepy after all her movements last night!! xx

Thanks everyone, well I had my munch then downed some icy robinsons and she went crazy! She feels very 'deep' in her movements though, so I think she's found a nice hidy hole facing my spine and everything's cushioned.

Lillou, yes, we're due 22nd September too!!

TBH I'd say it sounds normal. I remember my LO going from his second tri 'routine' and his movements altering greatly around 32/33 weeks as he began to run out of room to move. Went from noticeable kicks and so on to more gentle wriggles and squirms. Still lots of kicks but different as not as much room to move.

Also the 'routine' can change for baby inside as well as outside the womb. They have deep sleeps in there same as outside.

I'd not worry overly. Try the old cold drink and lie down as suggested. If you have real concern contact your MW.

FWIW once past 32 weeks I'd go 24 hours sometimes and not really feel my LO.

Thanks Sherlock....it's just so easy to panic! I don't think it helps that I seem to be treated slightly second rate at my MW appointments...don't get me wrong, they're not awful or anything, but, for example, I'll ask a question and get a simple yes or no, then she'll turn and give a lengthy in depth reply to my OH or MIL, depending on who's with me :? I'm only 23 and look a lot younger, so I'm sure this is it....but I don't really feel comfortable 'disturbing' them, so then that makes me fret and worry even more, as I begin to think 'should I call them?'

Oh, and can I just say I just clicked and read your home birth story and Galen is absolutely beautiful!

try what urchin said then if nothing comes of it ring your midwife,
I know how you feel, ive had bleeds and falls through my pregnancy and everytime the little un goes into hiding and scares the living daylights out of me.

TBH she's been quiet lately but i think thats cause she's facing inwards.

BTW don't feel intimidated by your midwife, she's there to help you its what she gets paid for. :D if she talks down to you or talks through you just kindly remind her that YOUR the patient!
