Last night my OH and I were talking about when we will finally get around to decorating the nursery (obviously a pretty early discussion to have lol). When we do get around to nursery decoration my OH wants us to have someone in to paint the room but I really want us to do it together ourselves. I feel really bothered by his insistence that we have someone in to do it for us. We had a few rooms painted for us when we moved in but there was no way we could have done that ourselves and hes from a family where they always had a painter in to do all of the rooms and his siblings do the same. I've always helped decorate rooms in the house I grew up in and was always free to redecorate my own bedroom and doing it for the baby's room is something I assumed we'd do.
Am I being unreasonable and daft if when it comes down to it I really want us to do it together? I know it's ridiculous to have this on my mind but its just one of those little niggly things I'm finding hard to let go, and to be honest really want to have it my way lol.

Awww, I completely agree with you. How lovely would it be to stand together when you have finished decorating and say, "Yeah, we did that!"...

I wouldn't have missed out on decorating the nursery for the world- I even said so to oh at the time.

My dh and I have stripped the little bedroom back as it had built in wardrobes, we then have had to have a plasterer in as the walls were awful, dh wanted to change all the skirting and architrave so i've let him get on with that. We've painted it ourselves and we're currently working on a mural i've drawn on the one wall (jungle theme). we'll be getting the new carpet down and a new door once the rest is all done. Luckily my dh has stuck by my decision, it has meant so much to me to be able to put our own personal touch to the room, i really hope your oh lets you do this, it is such a sence of achievement and it really has helped me bond with my baby, plus my dh feels like he's doing something for baby as even though he does all the baby shopping with me obviously he is not the one carrying our little one so he's thoroughly enjoying it and he HATES decorating! x x

Sproglett, your nursery sounds amazing! I hope you maybe post a pic when its done
We have built in wardrobes toget rid of too which will need plastering, once that's out of the way I'm hoping it'll be straight forward. I'll definitely be having a word with OH soon, I'm sure he'll enjoy it once he's doing it. Like your OH I hope it'll make him feels bit more involved

Lol, thanks hun, Glad you like it, but Surrey is a little far to travel lol. I've just literally got into bed after another night in the

Goodness, I'd never consider getting the decorators in! The only thing I'd consider getting someone it to do is the hall, stairs and landing! It's not that we're particularly DIY minded - but my parents always did it themselves, so it would just never enter my head lol. But yes, like the others I totally understand why you want to do your baby's room yourself - in a way it's nesting, something you have to do for your baby!

Sproglett - that's gorgeous, can't wait to see it all finished!!!

Lou, I completely agree! Having grown up in a house where the decorating is done by us I just can't justify someone else doing all the work.

So reassuring to have so many people know where I'm coming from, I can't wait to decorate it now!

I talked to OH last night about all this and he said he didn't realise it meant that much to me and that he thinks he'll do a horrendous job but that hopefully it can be a fun thing to do together (provided he doesn't get stressed out and stroppy lol) so we get to do it!!

I may very well terrify him with your work of art, I like that idea

Thanks ladies for all your support with this, I was starting to think I was mental for wanting us to do it but it was so helpful knowing it's what people generally want to do
