When does the 2nd trimester start?

I read somewhere it was around 13 weeks 3 days, is this right?

I had a scan at 6 weeks which showed a beating heart (they were a bit worried about it being an ectopic), but still can't relax until the 2nd scan at 12 weeks - when is the safest time to tell people? Is it ok after the 2nd scan at 12 weeks or should I wait til after the first trimester finishes? Very close relatives know, but are itching to tell people but we've told them we want them to wait (to be honest I can't think of anything worse than a load of strangers knowing I have sex! )

Hi rosie I told a few ppl about pregnancy when found out but now I'm nearly 13 wks I'll let everyone know, I prefered waiting as risk of miscarriage is less after 12 wks and also it gives you and yr partner time to get used to you being pregnant before everyone bombards you with questions. I only get 1 scan at 19wks, hopefully you will feel more at ease when you have yrs, good luck take care
