When did/do you first get stretchmarks?

Just wondering how many people have got stretch marks already or if they have had a baby already when they got them?

I haven't got any so far (fingers crossed) and I've been using Bio-Oil religiously. I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that I'm going to get them as my sis who has 2 kids already has a tummy that looks like a map of the London Underground. Oh well....

Thanks ladies!

I cant remember when I got them last time but so far this time I have none. That'll soon change though

You can get them any time, even after the babys born as your tummy shrinks again. My friend had none at all and she was so smug then when the baby was born and she lost the weight she got loads around her tummy and hips

I got mine quite early last time as I was a size 12 and had to stretch to accomodate the 2 of them but this time, although they've been coming, not quite as bad as last time

When did you start using the cream?

I only started using it a few weeks ago. I couldn't find it in my local Boots so had to travel further afield to get it. But I have been using Palmers Cocoa butter before that, although not as religiously as Bio-Oil.

I found my first one on my due date! :x

If he'd arrived on time, I MIGHT have got away with it :D

I used cream from day one, although I have tried lots of different brands.

Despite this I started getting stretch marks on my thighs and bum from 20 weeks onwards then, 30 weeks onwards they appeared on my tummy.

I am a qualified beauty therapist and there is a science behind stretchmarks.

Every one has different elastin levels in there skin, some more than others, it is what gives the skin the ability to stretch.

If you have high levels of elastin then your skin will stretch more easily and you will be less prone to stretch marks and vice versa. There is no easy way to tell whether or not you have high or low levels of elastin, and you cannot DO anything to increase the levels of elastin.

However, moisturisng the skin regulary will help to keep the skin healthy and supple, which should be done anyway, so its always worth using a good cream on your stretching skin.

I hope this has helped some of you ladies!

Hi,

With my first pregnancy, I used the creams religiously every night and thought that I had got away with having no stretch marks - at around 32 weeks I was commenting to people that I had none. A few days after making these comments I found some, and they grew and got more and more.

With my other 2 pregnancies, I can't remember when I started to get them, but the old ones just got bigger/longer.

This time, I am sure that the old ones are getting darker now already. :(

They aren't too bad afterwards, it's just the saggy skin that is awful!!

I got stretch marks when I was a teenager, around my hips - grew at an early age - so I knew I was bound to get them when pregnant.

Don't dwell on it too much. Either you are a person who will not get any, or you will get some. It depends on how elastic your skin is, and apparently, no amount of cream will do any good - just makes it feel nice!!

HTH a tiny bit?

I don't have any yet - but I;m sure they are round the next corner waiting for me - in a strange way I almost want one so I'm not paranoid about whether thats a stretch mark or not I can see etc

I don't have any yet...i bought some palmers stetch mark cream but i hardly use it so it won't help LOL

I was going to ask this question too!! I haven't got any yet, but I know I am not that lucky!!! I got some on my thighs when I was 12 so I assume that I will probably get some on my tummy at some point!

don't jinx it you nutter!

ive still got loads from my previous pregnancys, i think i got my first ones around 30 weeks!!!

I've got terrible ones on my tummy from my last pregnancy but thankfully none as of yet with this one.
I'm not mostirizing as religoiusly as last time I have to admit because for 1 it didn't work  and 2 I just think the damage has already been done and my tummy can't look any worse for stretch marks even if I lose all the weight and get it flat again the stretchmarks will still be there.

I got a few on my butt and belly with Ryan, no more this time (yet). I thought what I had were bad but lsome I've seen are worse so realise I'm pretty lucky. It helps having some fat to start with, more skin, less to stretch. (my excuse for being overweight anyway)

I was really lucky first time around and didn't get any on my tummy, but I DID get them on my bum :( .

Hoping I'll be a bit luckier this time around in the bum department as I haven't had nausea this time so haven't been pigging out like I did last time! Don't know what to expect with my tummy - my bump wasn't huge with Maddie. My friend managed to get to 39+ weeks then got them around her lower belly and back in the last couple of weeks. They've completely faded now though and are just little white lines.
