Wow sherlock, thanks for the info and taking the time to reply.
It is strange as I sometimes feel ok with eating stodgy wheat products like bread but once my tummy starts up I have to avoid them. From what I gather it can be expensive on a diet like this, and I guess I would need to make my own bread lol?! Don't fancy that wheat free hard stuff.
Will need to look into the differences between intolerance and allergy!
Not a problem, hope its of use to you
Re the foods being expensive, it depends. The book on foods good to eat has all the normal off the shelf stuff listed. So you can pretty much shop as normal just maybe more limited. For example only certain types of cereal are ok. It tells you what ones, what makes etc. Same with other normal food stuffs.
As far as special gluten free foods go I've made my friends daughter gluten free cakes before when we've had special occasions, so she is never left out. Its a case of using rice flour over normal flour. It might take a few attempts to master the balance of ingredients but I've always had pretty good results. Bread would have to be bought or made specially, but again its not so bad making your own. Same with pizza bases and so on.
Things you may really miss are pasta, breads and cakes, but again there are alternatives. Also sausages need to have a gluten free casing, as many don't.
Also worth trying Nimble bread and seeing if that works better on your tummy than other bread.
Good luck. If I find the name of that listing book I'll post and let you know. I think its a Sainsbury's own one or something
