I'd like to take my baby on a 2-3 hour flight pretty soon, but I asked the health visitor and she said they recommend waiting until they've had the whole lot of jabs (that's around 4 months) but by then my leave will be over.
Baby's 9 weeks now.

I was wondering, what's the earliest anybody has taken their LOs abroad?

Thanks feenix! That's very encouraning.

I'm a bit worried about viruses and flu with so many people crammed in airpots/planes, that sort of stuff

Anybody else with a positive experience or even just worried about that kind of thing??

Went to Holland with Becky when she was 3 months, again when she was 5 months and then onward to Croatia for a week. Only short flights (up to 2 hours) but she was fine, she slept most of the way and the staff always went out their way to help with anything. She never got ill, either :)

I think it depends on where you are planning to go. If you are planning on visiting countries with high rates of diseases such as the ones that babies are immunised against then I personally wouldnt take my baby due to the risk of catching the disease. If you are visting countries with very low rates or zero rates of the diseases then I would probably go.

We flew for the first time when LO was four weeks old, but we only went to Finland which is three hours away. No probs what so ever. I was a bit apprehensive beforehand, but she just slept through the flight (the humming sound of an airplane works a treat :) ).

We've travelled quite a bit ever since. LO loves travelling, whether it is train or plane. If you travel for a longer distance and can afford it, it may be worth upgrading. We fly business when flying longhaul and particularly at night (we can co-sleep like at home).

I was recommended to feed LO during take-off and landing so that her ears wouldn't pop. I always do this, unless she's asleep.

Like Charlie said I'd be a bit more careful if I was travelling with a young baby to more tropical areas where they may be some nasty diseases.

Now we just need to sort out my dislike of flying

Thanks everyone! I feel much more confident now. :D

I'm only going to Spain, but I wouldn't like to postpone it any more. Baby's grandparents live over there and are not well enough to travel. Although they are not putting any pressure on us, I know they are anxious to meet her. Another two months seemed to me too long to wait.

I'll remember to take a dummy or feed baby during t/o and landing, thanks!

It's just that when I asked the HV today I really felt that she disapproved. Not that it matters, I don't seem to put a foot right as far as they are concerned anyway

I guess my Lo was the youngest!! we flew from London where I gave birth back home 7 hours when LO was only 2 weeks old! although Dr said it's better to wait till he's at least a months old but he was a healthy baby so we didn't bother! and we know alot of ppl same situation .

we flew to spain when oliver was 10 weeks old. i had to fly home on my own with him at 12 weeks and benjamin at just 3 cause oh decided his fear had taken over and he got the coach home!

I'm due 4th of sept and got a holiday to florida booked for the 24th of oct.
I took my last one to florida when she was 12 weeks she slept all the way there and all the way back.Little babies are so much easier than bigger ones :D

we took holly to thailand when she was 4 mths - we did wait until she'd had her last jabs because of where we were going and the GP. The flight was fine, in fact she had a better time than we did she had a bassinet hooked onto the wall and slept the whole time!

We took night flights, i tried to feed on take off and landing but she was still asleep!
