Whats the one thing...

A little nose plunger for snot - GET ONE! :)

Ventilated feeding bottle - fixed our nights, since baby's belly was finally better. There was more washing up, but totally worth it.

Fisher price sea horse!! Jacob has slept with his every night of his life. It plays soothing water music that doesn't get annoying and it plays it for about 10 mins with the belly of the sea horse lit up........brilliant!!

I seen that in Argos Toon, is on the list of things to get for Odhrán, I couldnt be without this...

He gets sausage rolled at nightime and watches it to he falls asleep, it has 3 lullabyes, with the projector, gorgeous pictures.. Then for waking baby up when older, there is a switch which then plays more "awake" music, winnie the pooh song etc.. Brilliant.. You can push the 3 characters when on night mode, and they snore, and when on the morning one, the birds tweet, the bees buzz, and the characters wake up yawning..

Yes, we have this one too. He still uses it now. I know when he's awake in the morning because he turns it on, then starts chattering to it!

I have the seahorse too! It's brilliant :)

my friend told me about the formula dispensers said tehy are brill for days out. so i went out and bout some today. really cheap in wilkinsons £3.29 for 6 and in mothercare they are £5 for 6. thats the tomee tipee 1's

Great thread Pippa!

I didn't breast feed , but used powdered formula milk instead
So I just took sterilised bottles of water around with me, and used this powered container (holds 3 lots of premeasured out milk forumula , you just turn the lid with a hole in it to the next one, open the lid and tip into your bottle of water , seal bottle and shake!!! I used the avent one back in 2001! shown in the picture, but there are lots out there now it's caught on.

You can even take the bottles in a cool bag to keep the water warm, and ready for use, not need to worry about milk going off or wasting made up milk.

Mine kids were all quite happy with non heated water (they didn't know any different!!). Like breastfeeding , this way in the night , you don't need to leave the bed, just grab the cooled water bottle and the tub from the bedside table, mix and shake!!
i also used these for a few weeks till my midwife seen them and told me to stop as the water you put forumula into has to be above 70 deg or something like that so it kills all the bug that are in the dryed baby power i though she was being abit OTT but rang cow and gate and they said that this was ture and babies could get upset tummy so i stopped but now pregnant again i think they would usefull and would like to know if anybody else has used them
I couldn't recomend this enough for any one who formula feeds at any point

I was told about the water having to be hot thing but i have always prepared my bottles all in one go (with no formular in) and they sit in the cupboard at room temperature until baby needs a feed. I use the AVENT dispenser and and neither of my boys had an upset tummy.

7 years ago when i had my first there was totally different set of 'rules' so i am of the opinion that if it didn't hurt him back then , then it won't hurt my young ones now iykwim xx

It's true. Baby formula is not sterile, so boiled water sterilises it and kills any bugs. So if people sterilise bottles, then put in unsterilised milk then there is little point. That's what the food standards agency and all manufactures recommend you make up the milk within 30mins of a kettle cooling, but using the boiling water as soon as possible while it's piping hot.

However I don't know any baby that's become ill from it, so the risk must be minimal!

A big play mat so that several babies could be on it at one time when H was little and had our friends from antenatal classes over.

I also did Evie's bottles this way but not until she was about 5 months old, prior to this after breastfeeding I used to make them from scratch and cool them down. My HV told me it is not recommended but I know lots of people who do it and their babies haven't gotten poorly. I wouldn't do it for a newborn baby though, just in case as everything being totally sterile is really important.

Evie has this but is frightened of it!! It was a Christmas present which I loved but she cries if you put it on and then leave her room

I might have to look at one of those seahorses though - they look a bit like the gloworms that were around years ago but musical.

the best thing i bought so far is the mama and papas slumber swing plays music and swings lol it has different setting for the swing action so when baby gets hevier you bump it up a notch. really good i got it from argos for 60 quid amy loves it she also falls asleep in it too.

and i the other good thing a bout is a flask with a cup to put bottles in to warm them up when i go out, i bought this coz the staff in greggs in skipton refused to warm amy's bottle up for me so any where i go now i carry it around got it from morrisons for a tenner, and i got a tommy tippee single bottle steriliser which i thought would be good for taking away on holiday it came ith free bottle too and the was 9.99 from morrisons too xx
