Trying to organize myself before my 2nd round of IVF in April so I don't have to stress about it then :)

Wondering what vitamins you Ladies were taking (or plan to take) during IVF?

at the moment I'm taking around 14 different things a day and I'm beginning to give up on some of them now as they're almost empty and I'm not sure they help anyway!

thanks in advance!

Hi Millie,

I'm only on my first round but previously I've rattled with the amount I've taken but I've given up with most of them (I never got pregnant so why bother?). I'm now only on folic acid, zinc, vitamin C and co enzyme q10! I'm sure some of the other girls might have good advice xx

Thanks! :) x
Sounds like a nice small list!

I've got 2 more boxes of pregnacare his and her conception so thinking maybe I just take those and Co Enzyme Q10?
But maybe I'm missing something.. hmm

I've read quite a lot of research that zinc and vitamin c is really important for fertility so I take them and obviously my folic acid. I started coq10 last year but I've only been taking a low dose so upping it from today! I think you could go mad adding loads in. I think a prenatal and coq10 sounds good hun xx

I took pregnacare conception, high dose vit d (very important for fertility and most women in UK deficient) and high dose coq10 xx

It's sooooo easy to get carried away with how many different things there are that "could" help yeah :(
Zinc and Vit C are both in pregnacare I think, I'll check the values I guess and make sure it's enough

I'll add vitamin d to my list, I stopped taking it some time ago, can't remember why!

I was advised to take Vit D, Vit C, Folate, and efa's (essential fatty acids) but when I go on to stims to stop everything except vit d and folate.

The key is to make sure you're diet is containing a lot of the above (and iron) but a good multi-vit contains everything so not to over think it too much and just add one or two important ones.

I agree, you can go crazy on them! I stopped everything during my cycles apart from a prenatal, folic acid and vitamin D. Right now I'm on quite a lot again!

I'm going to try plan my diet better too, I can easily drink 2L water a day but when it comes to food I'm sometimes lacking I guess :(
It's really hard!!!
Need some easy-ish healthy meals planned

I got to the point where I needed a pill box and even that I couldn't fit them all in lol

So coq10, vit D, a prenatal and maybe folic acid?
I know they usually have them in most prenatals but I read somewhere that more helps?
When it comes to ttc'ing long term I could read about anything that "works" or "helps" and believe it!!

Hi xMillie - I cant remember if you're on the IVF this year feed but I put a little recipe for a morning drink on there the other day which is amazing for being dead easy, actually really nice and having SOOO many good fertility vitamins and nutrients in. I have one every morning so you're already off to a good start and anything else is a bonus then... Let me know if you want me to post it on here but in case you already saw didn't want to bore you with it again! haha xx Otherwise, great things to eat are: plenty of nuts and seeds (Tesco do little seed 'shots' with dried fruit in for like 50p each which are handy to take to work, cashews and pistachios are really good, chicken and eggs for protein, and also things like lentils and chickpeas - (so lots of hummus!) and avocados!! Apologies if you know all this already but it took me a while to get my head round what is really good and what not so knowing this makes a big difference! xx

Hi Millie!

Just to throw in my 2p's worth....please please take folic acid! It is so important in preventing some truly devastating life limiting conditions in ur baby. It is more important for older mums to be to take it but it is still a wise choice for younger mums to be too!

I went a bit vit mad when I started too and got a right rollicking from my consultant for taking macca and royal jelly, he also told me off for taking coQ10 as he said it was responsible for my body growing all the cysts in my ovaries.....he has since had to step back a bit from that one though since the majority of what he thought were cysts have in fact been eggs. I now take omega 3, vit D, vit B, folic acid (and don't tell my consultant but I'm also back on the coQ10 cause I'm a rebel like that! ;) ).

This is probably more than I need to take but I'm hedging my bets! Xx

1sttimer, I'll have to have a scroll back through that thread I guess I missed that post, thanks :D

20percent, folic acid I'll definitely be taking! But my acupuncturist said I really don't need to take it as well as pregnacare (since it has it) so I guess I'm sticking with just pregnacare for that? Maybe I'll check with my clinic too.
Ha, I don't blame you for going back to coq10, always hear good things about that. My failed cycle I wasn't taking it so I'm interested to see the difference it might make

The pregnacare alone has the right amount of folic acid.
When I was ttc I rattled from the vits I was taking. I even had wheatgrass...it actually tastes like grass, clue is in the name!! I took all sorts, maca, vit d, omega 3, pregnacare, bee propolis, coq10...it spent a fortune on vitamins.
I cut back for IVF though as didn't want anything interfering with meds. He told me pregnacare, coq10 and vit d were all fine during the process and that's all I took xx

I sure spent a fortune too, it was right after the failed cycle, I felt so desperate and just started taking basically everything!
I've started to cut back already but I've got some bottles that are almost empty so might as well finish them lol.

Yes I really don't want anything to interfere with ivf and want to keep it as simple as I can!

20percent - just out of interest why did he give you a rollocking over the macca?? I thought that was one of the most mild supplements and now wondering if I should stop taking it!

Hi Millie!

Sorry, I didn't realise u were taking extra folic acid on top of the pregnacare! Yes, just the pregnacare will be absolutely fine, as Lisey says, that contains the correct daily dose....it's not necessarily good to have more than the recommended limit (although I don't know that that's the case with folic acid) I have only ever taken the recommended daily amount of it. Xx

1sttimer...hello! He said both the macca and the royal jelly had never been medically proven to assist with fertility....to b fair he was right, I did a lot of research after hearing this and if u look at the pages that recommend these supplements they are all homeopathic sites, none are science based.

You've got to do what u feel is right for your body but my consultant is quite vocal about a lot of the herbal supplements available and I guess he is right to be sceptical in a way as just because an ingredient is natural it doesn't mean it isn't going to affect your body's hormone balance and that can do as much harm as it can good. He strongly recommended vits D and B6 and obviously the folic acid as they are proven to assist your body with reproduction. He isn't sold on coQ10 either as I've mentioned before. Hope that helps a little....not sure I've explained it well xx
