When packing my hopsital bag last time, i thought i had all the bases covered - how wrong i was!. Since the hospital is 2 and half hours away from home and i was kept in for 3 days, and my partner had no way of travelling home.. we severly underpacked, totally forgot about clothes for him, and Kade was 9lbs 1oz, and most of the 0-3 babygros didn't fit him length wise, i was beside myself, and only managed because of my partners inlaws running themselves ragged for us and spending their own money to get us stuff. Obviously i don't want it to happen again, so i've made a list..

MUMMYS HOSPITAL BAG
3 nighties/1 pair of pajamas
maternity pads - 3 packs
nipple pads
2 good bras
loads of old knickers (i found the paper ones didn't go over my bum haha)
socks
slippers
dressing gown
face cloth
toothpaste
toothbrush
hair brush
bobbles
shampoo
shower gel
body spray
magazines/book
money/change
mobile phone
camera
paper and a pen
planning on wearing the clothes i am admitted in, to go home in.

DADDYS MINI HOSPITAL BAG
clean boxers/socks/tshirt/jeans
book/ds
mobile
money
bank card
camera
stuff to drink
some snacks/sweets

BABYS BAG

12 babysgros
12 vests
4 hats
4 bibs
loads of socks
blanket
snowsuit
cardigan
wipes x 2
pack of nappies

ANYTHING I SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN?

I know =[, it's a pain in the bum, especially as your partners aren't allowed to stay overnight unless your in established labour - it's so far just to go home.. your not allowed to bring the carseat or anything into the room, and they give you nothing for the baby apart from milk.. its a pain =[ x

I took a my own towel, for my bath afterwards. I would also take a spare pair of trousers, I know your going to wear the same clothes home, but if your waters break in the car you might not want too.

Have you thought about a home birth

I haven't. To be honest i found the support of doctors and midwifes during the labour to be very conforting and i probably would have freaked out if they were'nt there. It's the before and after i don't like.. the way the staff are, their policies and distance from the hospital to home, and they never seem to take that into account!

Plus the midwives in the local unit probably wouldn't be too keen, because i have a high BMI, Kade was a large baby and he was my first, i had to be induced and i had a 2nd degree tear.

In the local unit they don't deal with BMI's over 29, they don't induce, they don't do cesereans, all they are equipt and confident enough to deal with are 'straightforward' cases, and if it all goes pear up, then they send you an ambulance the 2+ hours away, and if there's not enough time for that they do emergency c-sections.. it's awful.

Well lets hope everything goes smoothly and to plan this time.
I would add some sucky sweets for the journey to your list

I took some snacks and drinks for me - the hospital is always so warm.
Also, my own towel and soft tissues, and the phone recharger

 hello :D

blimey 2 & a half hours??? thats a long way to go....

Id suggest some spare batteries for your camera (just in case) i could never take enough piccies of my 3 and i found the batteries didnt last particularly long!!

Also i took 2 towels for me (one for just after the birth and one for the rest of your stay in hospital just in case your in for a few days)

And i agree with LittleLambe that you maybe should think about taking a second pair of trousers just in case your waters go in the ones your wearing.

I planned on going home in the clothes i wore in but was sick all down my top! Also when i was in early labour my boobs started to leak really bad and came through my top. A spare set of clothes might be good.
