What to call her now?

Just like to back Shea up on this (I'm the husband/daddy!) Nothing she says is meant personally or as an insult unless it's literally directed at someone. she has Aspergers and isn't completely aware of what is/isn't considered "insulting" to some. But I can clarify she wasn't doing it to have a pop at you or anyone else she literally was talking about the girls specific to our hometown. Just to save arguments or anyone getting upset.
Thanks

Don't worry about it! I met a lady at baby and toddler and she asked what my daughter was called and I said 'Alice' and she said aww that was supposed to be my babies name but my best friend gave birth who was due after me and called her Alice, I got the text while in labour so we went with Ethel' She was so gutted and said her best friend knew how much she loved the name. And her Bf had loved modern names-- there really are sheep's out there without any originality and would use the name anyway even if you told them it!

I also know another big argument over two women at baby and toddler over the name Harvey - police and the lot involved!

I will be honest and say I don't like popular names, I don't know why, nothing wrong with them and there nice but... you honestly couldn't pay me to use a name like George now. My nephew is called George lovely name but omg there are about seven I can think off the top of my head where I live xx

Awww that's so harsh!! :( Your poor friend! That's pretty two faced of her other friend to be honest! Yeah exactly why I don't want to do that...I think we're sticking with Poppy but not sure. Amira's the backup name.
Oh my God!!! :S Police? That's nuts...

I agree, I don't either. I've got a name that everyone has, and all the other Sarahs were popular and confident and had loads of friends, and then there's me...Shy, quiet and basically no identity of my own. I don't want our little girl to be the same. I want her to be original and fun. Even in there, we feel like she's got a little personality. Such as waking up and wriggling at the wrong times lol when I'm trying to sleep or rest!! - We think she's cheeky and for some reason Poppy just fit? Idk though haha.
Oh wow!!!! Seven is a lot tbh! It's mostly Charlie and Alfie round where we are. One called hers Kenzie! :S I would have thought that was a girls' name, but there you go...lol
xx

yeh poor lass I proper felt for her, if shes poppy then shes poppy and stick with the name, I can understand why you would be put off but you don't need to be. Its a lovely name. I love your backup ive not heard it before, you can always save that one for the next ;)

I shit you not police, threats, it was like a mini war, one lass had a big loud family though that's why all the bother, but bloody hell its just a name, if it annoys you that much change it don't start fighting lol,

Seriously there are a lot around here, especially after the Royal baby. xx

Aww thank you :) Yeah, we're sticking with it. Poppy Isabella Townsend!
Bless her :( Such a sucky friend! Oooh I'd go mad if that was me!!!
Luckily, I basically have no friends, so I'm in no danger of them copying me, I suppose :( lol.

Good God! :S Ugh I hate loud people, they make me so anxious. This place is full of them - always fighting, shouting. Thank God we're moving to a quiet place soon lol. But no, that's just silly!!

Ahhhh...Yeah I forgot about him lol even though it was all over my Twitter feed for weeks haha!! xx

Aww yey! Its a lovely name, and if its what you love you have to go with it. You have friends and there on here! I don't have any either lol x

Thank you hun :)
I can't get over how pretty your girls' names are.
Temperance especially - it sounds so powerful but pretty all at once.
And Alice is just gorgeous :)
I won't steal them off you, I promise haha. Next girl (if we ever have one!) probably will be Amira, Holly or Hazel tbh :)
Aww thank you, you too - lots of friends on here! xx

Aww thank you, a lot of people hate/d Temperance but we love it, it suits her so much, I don't see it as stealing when its on here lol, id only be a bit gutted if it where someone close to me really. I love Amira ive not heard it before which all the baby name searching ive done is rare!
A women I know at baby and toddler called her new born Harriett Alice and said she thought of my Alice when she picked it, I took it as a compliment because no one would name there child after a naughty one would they? Plus middle names are rarely used anyway x

I totally get the 'not wanting a popular name' thing but if you truly love the name and are using it when refering to her then i'd use it. My boys are Jack & Harry which are 1 & 3 on the most popular list. Jack's been no.1 for years!! I knew this when we chose their names but I loved them so still used them. Funnily enough if we're lucky enough to have a 3rd and it's a boy we're having Oliver which is no.2! lol x

our chosen names are luke and lucy (kate (katherine) and alexander are on the list too and 2nd faves) and theyre quite popular but in the end we like those names.

my name is joanna... not a really original name but i only know 1 other joanna

i dont like a lot of the names people call their kids at the moment... i think theyre either too old sounding or trying too hard to be individual, however its not my decision what someone else calls their child. some would say "luke or lucy? really?" to me but i dont care because i love the name

if you like poppy go with poppy.

We have the same problem.

2 years ago when we were expecting our son, we were team yellow and our girls names were poppy and Isla.

This time around we wanted to use those names if we have a girl, but poppy was the top most popular name of 2013 in my local area and Isla was number 6 :-/ it annoys me as we really struggle for names but I just don't want the top name as there will be loads of them :(

I know one Poppy and one Isla, I think it depends on the area its not too poplular around here.

Could it be that now youve picked that name you are just noticing it more? Like when u buy a new car and then you see loads of the same about?! If you really want that name you go for it xx

I was about to say the same as the person above, I think once you choose a name you suddenly notice loads of people with that name. We had loads of boys names when I was pregnant, some of which I thought were quite unusual and all of a sudden I was hearing them everywhere. In the end we decided on Max, it suits him perfectly :) A couple of years ago I didn't know anyone called Isla, however now I know 5! I love the name Poppy and think if you love it, go for it xxx

I really dont think Poppy is too overused. I like unusual names but any name will have popularity trends, if youve bonded with your daughter as a Poppy then go for it. I have lots of friends with Amelias the top name, and yet they all wanted to use it as it was perfect for them, cant see Poppy being like that, its a cute name.

My 15 year old doesnt like his middle name of daniel as its boring!!

Oh and if you want a diff p name, how about Paeony ? ( pronounced peony) ( also a flower) , we had on our list as i already have a briony ( flower too) but we have 4 boys! What about Penelope? but I love love penny

Poppy is a lovely name :) I haven't told anyone what my daughter is going to be called apart from my parents and a few close friends because it's a name where I don't know any other girls named it, even though it's a known name :)

As a primary teacher I've had a few Poppys and Islas over the past few years. But I'm a big believer in calling a child what you love as after all you are going to have to shout that name out for the next 70 years!! We picked Abrielle as a girls name as we originally had Evangeline but I thought there were too many Evie's about, but when she popped out she didn't look like an Abrielle so we went with Evangeline and I love it - so I don't care how popular it is!!
