Hi Ladies, after 3 years of trying I have finally had my bloods done at the dr's and my hubbie has had his seamen tested. All results came back fine, his results were classed as normal and nothing came up on my bloods, all fine and I had ovulated this mth.

The doctor asked if I would like to be refered to the fertiity specialist and I of course said YES! She will put me forward to 3 of our local hospitals.

What will happen now? How long should it take to get the appointment and what will happen at the appointment? Do they do more tests or a scan, I am excited but just wanted to know what happens now.

Hi hun, there are a few of us waiting to see the specialist, my appt waiting time is around 7 weeks but due to my referral getting lost I am having to wait 10 weeks, some of the other ladies less, it all depends on your hospital, hopefully you won't have to wait to long. Not sure what to expect on first visit I am hoping they start me off on clomid straight away as I have pcos. They may send you for a scan or check to see if your tubes are blocked, if your ovulating then that is a good sign that everything is ok and may even give you clomid straight away as well. Let us know when you get your appt x

I agree with Vicky that they will probably move onto a more physical examination of you.

Your husband will be in the clear now - if their sperm is good and they can penetrate, they're good to go.

You will be referred to a fertility unit of a hospital more likely and the wait for my initial consultation was 8 weeks but it could be as much as 12 weeks.

They'll maybe give you a hysterosalpingogram (HSG - aka lap and dye) which will check your tubes.

Maybe an internal ultrasound to count your follicles and check for tumours etc.

Thank you for your replies, I am excited for the appointment to come round. I recall the dr saying about a scan and lap and dye.

Would they still give me clomid even though I am ovulating?

Vicky- How frustrating that they lost your referral, just when you feel like your getting to the next stage.

Louise- Did they do these things on your first visit?

Hiya Helven :)

Yes i was scheduled to have a scan on the same day that i went to see the fertility consultant.

I waited about a week after seeing my GP and then i was contacted by the hospital to actually book a date and that was 8 weeks later.

They also did my weight and blood presure etc.

It was horrible though - spent about 1.5 hrs in the waiting room

Re the clomid, i was under the impression that clomid was for if you wasn't ovulating but Maybe Baby is having it just to help regulate her cycles i think :)

I heard from the NHS booking line yesterday, they have booked me an appointment for Wednesday 23rd. I cannot believe how quick that is, I was only with the Dr 2 weeks ago!!!

I am so excited now, I cannot wait to see/hear what they do and suggest.

Oooh that was quick - Good Luck!!!

Thank you, I am amazed at how quickly that came through! Lets hope the rest of the process goes just as well!

Wow that was really quick!

I have my first proper appointment too on Tuesday 22nd so I'll pop on and fill you in on how that goes, I think they are suggesting lap and dye too, I'll let you know though.

Hope this week goes quick for you.

xx

Nice one Helven :)

23rd will come around so quickly, i can't believe it's already the 17th tomorrow!

You look in great shape in your avatar, but i thought i'd just mention that you need a BMI of less than 30 for IVF where i live, just to give you some time for purging yourself if not ;)

Thank you ladies, I will keep you updated xxxx

Helven

Glad to see your appointment as come through quick, i suppose it all depends on the area you live in, people judge the NHS and so do I, but when it comes to appointments they are quite quick, especially in my catchment area...

I believe you will have all the usual tests done, which others have explained.

Good Luck

X
