just seen my midwife and talked about induction, this is what she said..
I have to ring up about 8/8.30am and see if there is a bed available, when you go in they do a vaginal exam etc and depending on how your cervix is depends on how they start you off.
If its not that favourable it'll be a pessary which they insert and you lay still for about 1/2 hour for it to absorb, this is for softening the cervix and try and get things started, after 6 hours they re check to see whats happened and if need be re do another pessary, if that one don't work they wait till morning and start over again.
If you cervix is starting to open and soften they can break your waters, this will usually start off the contractions too, if not they assess you and may give you a drip.
My main concern about induction is i know what labour feels like and i'd prefer to go naturally so the pain builds up slowly rather than kick straight in hard and fast. She said with induction it is still slow starting with the pessary and by having your waters broken, they only time its hard and fast is if they have to use the drip cause its continously fed into your blood stream and being turned up bit by bit but quite fast to make your contractions come hard and fast every 2 mins
I was asking about needing an epi as the way my cervix is at the min i would be started with my waters being broke, She said don't be frightened of the pessary or breaking waters as this is still a nice calm way like a natural labour but if i needed the drip then i might want to consider the epi.
