Just as the title says really!

I'm really looking forward to it but what exactly are we meant to be doing apart from taking it easy and talking about like a penguin? I'm pretty organised with everything already so I doubt I will have much preparing to do and I won't feel like going out shopping. Anyone got any plans or what they are going to do while off? I can imagine having alot of aches and pains (i have enough already lol) so can't really see me wanting to do much?

I'm going to be so bored.. lol

Ps. I mean before the baby is born btw :)

One word = NESTING!

Haha, last time around I was signed off from about 30 weeks due to sickness when having my twins, I ended up cleaning our house, and sleeping a lot too. Plus it gave me time to get all the baby clothes washed and generally prepare for the upcoming birth.
This time I hope to work as close to the birth as I physically can, and possibly just have a week or two to rest myself ready for the new arrival!

I went on Maternity leave when I was pregnant with Amber at 32 weeks, so I still had eight weeks left before she was due. Tbh I could not wait for mine to start as I was working 45+ hours a week in a job where I was on my feet constantly, and I was SO exhausted!

As she was due in September, it was the best part of the summer so I just relaxed and put my feet up! I spent most of my time outdoors, shame you can't really get out in this weather though! :( I didn't really get much done while I was working so I caught up on getting all the bits and pieces I needed to buy, getting the house ready and the Nursery done, met up with friends on their days off, etc. I did get slightly bored towards the end and just wanted it to get to September! I'm sure you'll find things to do though, at least you have got all your stuff and you sound pretty organised so don't feel guilty about doing nothing... make the most of it coz when you have the baby you won't have time to feel bored!

Since I started maternity leave I've just been doing domesticy things. Cooking, baking and tidying. I also knit and crochet, and have lots of books I want to read.

A tip from my friend is to make use of the maternity leave before baby arrives to do lots of cooking. Make plenty of meals you can freeze so that in the early weeks of having a baby you can eat healthily without having to cook too much.
Other than that i'm going to sign up to a free one months trial on one of those websites where you order films and they post them to you. You can watch an unlimited number of films!

when i was pregnant with sophie i was suspended from work so had all my 9 months off work, I remeber when i was pregnant with alastair i went on maternity leave at 36 weeks and the summer of 2006 was so so so so so hot, so i spent most of my days walking around my house in a T shirt and sitting in front of my fan :rotfl:

when i go off with this one, i plan to try and do lots of nice things with my kids even if its just the park or late nights watching telly i wanna give them as mush attention as possible :D

I've been wondering the same thing. was supposed to work to my due date but now having three wekks before on physio advice.
Suspect it will pass fairly quickly. Got lot of cleaning and preparations to do and I'd like to get out for a bit of a walk/waddle each day to try and encourage baby out early!
Otherwise I've been told to rest :? boring but has to be done if I want some of the fluid/swelling to go down before birth. I want to be able to pick my baby up when it arrives!

I cant believe that anyone would actually get bored!! Im really looking forward to going on mat leave, to have time to chill out, read magazines, watch tv, go shopping, chat on the phone, go to see a film with a mate, whatever! It will mean I have more energy for my son for when he gets home from school as well, rather than being totally wiped out!

Im no martyr to my job and will leave as soon as I can!

Sleeeeep, sweet, sweet sleeeep :)

I took up colouring last time, although I'll be busy with Stanley this time round. When it wasn't too hot I took little walks out by myself, to the museum or to wander around charity shops. I relished the last time I'd spend alone for 20 years

Last time I did sweet FA!!!!! I was a right lazy arse...and spent most of my time on here :D

This time im finishing work at 34 weeks and I plan to spend some quality time with my little boy, get the house up together and all the baby clothes laundered and pressed ready for the new arrival....oh and try and relax :D

i obviously want to work as far as i can so i get longer off when bubs is here, but because i need to get a train and a bus to work and back - i'm scared of me going into labour when i'm on public transport :rotfl:

also, my friend in work started her maternity 3 weeks before her due date, and then went 10 days over with her little boy so she had used over a month of her maternity before the baby was even born..

i'm due 7th july and going to go back to work just after xmas..

i was thinking of going off on maternity around 23rd june (2 weeks before)

but what i will most probs do is book 2 weeks holidays before this..

so i will have 2 weeks off on hols, and then my maternity will start straight after this - just incase baby makes an early appearance :)

Hoping to work right up till two weeks before due date - so I think that at that stage I will be justified in doing - ABSOLUTELY SWEET FANNY ADAMS....

But you know I will probably start nesting or doing some damn thing that can wait. Knowing me. Or I'll be running around trying to get ready for the hospital!

This is exactly what i have done. I actually finished work on the 31st December. I have got 4 wks annual leave which i am using this month then my maternity leave starts on the 1st Feb. I am not going back to work this time which is another reason i finished as soon as i could. Last time around i worked up until 2 wks before ds was born and went back to work when he was 4 months old as SMP wasnt as long 7 yrs ago. This time around, i will get SMP until the end of Oct i think and i am in the process of becoming a registered childminder and plan to stay at home with baby while still bringing in some £££'s
